The Shack November 13, 2008 I bought this book on the recommendation of people who had read it and said once you start you can not put it down. My experience differs. Maybe it is because I bought it as an audio book, but I thought it was long and boring.
The story line catches you at first, but by the time you get to the shack it bogs down. The conversations were never ending - or at least that's what it felt like. As a Christian I understand (like, even) the author's choices of characters for God, Jesus and Holy Spirit, but this is not really a Christ centered book. I guess disappointing may be the best way to describe my feelings. Not a book I reccommend.
A great story November 13, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
What's to say? I ordered five copies and loaned them out to friends. It will make you think if you can get to page 100! You might find answers to questions you have ask but found no answer before.
never received!! no communication from seller!!! November 13, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book was supposed to arrive between the 14th and 29th of october. I've not only not received the book, but there has been no response from the seller. I wrote twice and waited two weeks before I decided to file for a refund.
The Problem of Evil Seen as "No Problemo" November 12, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Dear Reader -- You will find many reviews that point out the many discrepancies between "The Shack" and the Bible. And like me, you will agree with some, disagree with others, and fail to comprehend still others.
My beef with "The Shack" is that it tries to tell us that when the main character's little girl is abducted and being tortured and murdered, she really did not suffer, because she was in the presence of Jesus. That she was in the presence of Jesus after she died, I do not dispute, but to make her murder less than horrible to the end is foolish poppycock.
Are we to believe, by extension, that when hundreds of thousands of innocent people die in a tsunami, they are in the presence of Jesus as the wave sweeps over them? That when children lie crushed and screaming in a collapsed school building, they are in the presence of Jesus? That when a bombed soldier observes his life blood soaking into the roadside sand, he is in the presence of Jesus?
My belief is that there is no rational explanation for the contradiction between evil (especially impersonal evil) and belief in a loving God. Much as it may irk the modern "scientific" mind to not be able to solve this problem, it remains amystery.
NEVER RECEIVED THE PRODUCT November 12, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have never received the book THE SHACK. It was ordered on October 11th and today is November 12th. I contacted the seller via email two times and this is the 2nd time I have written a review saying that the product was never received.
