Uninspired Audio but Inspiring Content August 10, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I listened to the audio version of this book. I found the audio delivery adequate but uninspiring.
There wasn't much new here if you are already very familiar with Ron Paul and his positions, but if you don't have a great familiarity or would like to see his ideas collected and cogently presented, it is hard to go wrong here.
I don't agree with everything he says, but I must give him credit that he presents a forceful case even in the areas where we diverge.
He is an important voice on the modern American political landscape and his ideas should be given a much more substantial airing as they provide real alternatives to the "business as usual" approach we see from most politicians.
If you want a thoughtful analysis to many of todays problems and realistic solutions that don't pander or insult the intelligence thoughtful people, then read this book.
A Very Simplistic View of the World August 9, 2008 7 out of 23 found this review helpful
I don't agree with Ron Paul on a lot of things, but I do agree with him on a few things. The problem with Ron Paul however, is that he is able to recognize many problems that other politicians ignore; but his solutions to those problems are reckless and would only do more harm. The Government has been printing money at an alarming rate, lately, to pay for the extremely wrong Iraq War, but a return to the gold standard would be completely disastrous as it would create massive deflation which is actually much worse than the slow inflation that we have now.
I first became really intrigued by Ron Paul by reading his "War on Christmas" speech. In that speech he claimed that the Constitution is "replete with references to God". Now, anyone who has ever read the Constitution would know that there are absolutely zero references to God in the Constitution. It made me realize that this man, who constantly speaks of the Constitution, is actually using it to push his far right-wing agenda. Such as his "Sanctity of Life Act", which would define life at conception and essentially be a de-facto ban on abortion; as any state that has murder as a crime would be forced to treat abortion as murder.
This book is no different than what he has been peddling for the past 20 years. However, the reason I am giving this book one star other than the fact that his solutions are dangerous, is the fact that I believe he is doing something unethical by using his Presidential candidacy to sell books. Long after it was clear that he was done, he continued to solicit donations and use those donations to promote his book. It reminds me of his "do as I say not as I do" stance on earmarks. Where he inserts millions of dollars worth of pork into bills and then votes against them; all the while criticizing others for doing the same thing.
This book will definitely appeal to his supporters. But, to someone reading this unbiased and not knowing who Ron Paul is, will find the book to be nothing more than an overly idealistic and simplistic view on politics and economics. The world is much more complex then "get the government out of this" and "abolish that".
Deserves 10 Stars August 9, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Agree or disagree, The Revolution should be required reading for every American. Like the proverbial frog in the frying pan, I fear most Americans no longer even know what it means to be American. I didn't, and this book was a real eye-opener. I didn't vote for Ron Paul, but I wish I had.
Paul to the Rescue August 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ron Paul stands out for one simple reason. He is the only politician of national stature who absolutely sounds like he means what he says. Others may be just as honest as he is, but Paul has the sincerely thing down cold. One absolutely believes him even if you don't believe in him. I was impressed by his passion and deep patriotism. What a breath of fresh air. Compare the oily rivals for out attention. Paul never says things that just sound good, he doesn't need cue cards to help him remember his positions or policies, he is bright and clear and sincere. Compare the rest of the candidates who can't even remember their positions, let alone explain how they got there. And they change positions everyday after reading the paper. This goes for the current crop but basically all of them are the same all the time. And this is just the beginning of what it is that makes Paul stand out. He was very impressive in the debates, although one certainly never believed that he would go far. Even his anti-war policy is portrayed by the press as off-the-wall. This guy sounds like he means it when he says we must get out. It would be hard to say with confidence what the others might do. This is a salt of the earth, tried-and-true spokesman for the truth.
