It was overall a good book.. but i caught some minor errors, not that it matters! *possible spoilers* September 4, 2006 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
The book was just as suspenseful as the first! Like "Twilight" I couldn't put it down. There were a few things i was confused about...
Can Alice see the present too? Because if she saw Bella cliff dive before she actually did it, then she would have come to Charlie right away. Alice must have seen Bella cliff dive when she actually jumped... which makes no sense
If Alice can see into the future, but she saw Bella suicide, then why can't she see Bella again in the future alive?
What is Jane's power?
It made no sense when Bella thought the vampries were asking her to stay for dinner because vampires hunt for food...
How come the vampires' powers don't work on Bella? Wouldn't that include Alice too?
I found myself asking those questions while reading New Moon, but although those weren't the major parts of the story, i couldn't help but notice that, which made my understanding of the story alittle more... difficult?
AMAZING!!! September 4, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Stephanie Meyer has done it again! I seriously could not put the book down...I just wanted to keep reading more and more to find out what happens to Bella and EDWARD! She's such a great author and defintely balances the suspense, romance, and adventure you'll love! I HIGHLY recommend this book! I can't wait till "Eclipse" comes out!
disappointing and unbelievable September 3, 2006 33 out of 46 found this review helpful
I was looking forward to this book, but after finishing it I was disappointed. The compelling story in Twilight didn't make it into New Moon. I found it predictable and unbelievable. Very disappointing. I think much could have been cut or altered from this story, and then the rest merged with the final book.
The story showed much promise with Edward's disappearance and Bella learning how to fend for herself. She could have had so much character development by learning how to overcome her meekness, her feelings of being ordinary, or even her clumsiness. She starts to do this, but the minute she's back with Edward she reverts back to her old self. She doesn't even get mad at him for leaving her, nearly destroying her, making her fend for herself. That was probably the most unbelievable part. She should be furious with him. Not in spite of how much she loves him, but because of it. No one can make you crazier than the ones you love. And then, she's still willing to become a vampire and spend all eternity with him, but she won't marry him? What sense does that make?
The best part of this story was Jacob and learning more about his family history. He's a great character and has turned into my favorite so far. He was the only one I felt sorry for at the end of the story, but I doubt that's what the author intended.
Overall, this book felt way too long, repetitive, and had a rushed-out-the-door quality about it. I hope the last one fares better, because I have a theory as to why Bella is immune to some of the vampire's gifts and I want to see if I'm right.
Sink your teeth into this worthy sequel! September 3, 2006 13 out of 18 found this review helpful
New Moon picks up a few months after Twlight left off, with Edward and Bella just as in love as ever and life proceeding as normally as it can when your boyfriend is a vampire. Bella's big problem is that with her birthday, she technically becomes older than Edward, and is still insistent on becoming a vampire so that she can be with him forever. Edward doesn't see things her way, and disaster strikes when an accidental paper cut at her birthday party causes the Cullens to have to fight to resist the sight of her blood. With this danger on his mind, Edward convinces Bella he no longer needs her and he and his family leave Forks.
This book is big on emotion; Meyer does an incredible job of forcing us to feel Bella's pain at losing Edward and her moments of joy when she realizes that doing dangerous stunts bring on the "sound" of his voice. We're led to understand the growing friendship between Bella and Jake, and Meyer pulls us in with the reveal of Jake's own problems. The relief Bella feels upon seeing Alice and then the terror of Edward's dilemma are all events that caused my heart to jump. Rarely do I get so caught up in the lives of characters, but Meyer makes it impossible not to. The fact that she moves her stories along less on action (though there is plenty of that at times) than on emotion is the driving success of both Twlight and New Moon, and the imprint all of the characters leave on you as you close the last page makes you want to simply turn the book over and begin again.
Highly, highly recommended for all who love well-drawn characters and inventive story-telling. Just be prepared to be disappointed as you are forced to wait for the next installment!
Sense of addiction September 2, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I couldn't stop reading this book from the moment i picked it up. I was the same way with Twilight. I hated putting the book down. I was so wrapped up in this new book i actually put off things that should be more important than reading a book. I cant help it, I love to read and this book just grabbed me. It held so much emotion and really made me wonder what was going to happen next. I'm so anxious for the next book, i can hardly wait. I don't want to give away anything about the book if you haven't read it yet, but i must say you're in for a surprise or two. Be prepared to actually feel something when you read this book. Im rather emotional, Im not saying that i cried or that you might cry, but it was like i could almost feel what bella was going through. Meyer is so descriptive, its wonderful
