Incredible! August 17, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I loved The Kite Runner and was so pleased that this story also was incredible. I could not put this book down, it was captivating!
An easy read August 17, 2008 I decided to purchase this book after a friend lent me The Kite Runner. I like the author's style of writing and it's a good story. I like how he conveys the history and the plight of the people living in Afghanistan by weaving facts into fiction. Most Americans (like me) don't have a clue about what goes on over there. They are real people, just like us, with families, pets, relationships, and educational/career goals who are blown to bits during war after war thrust upon them by others.
Hosseini is a master at weaving a tale August 15, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Hosseini's new book is even better than the wildly popular Kite Runner. Written simply with plot twists, readers looking for an entertaining read will not be disappointed. Hosseini's book may not be an example of fine writing but he makes up for it with his clarity in story telling.
If you ever wonder what life is like for families where women wear hejabs, burquas or chadors, you will gain more of an understanding from this book granted that it is a work of fiction. Being originally from Afganistan and having worked there recently, the author has painted a convincing picture of life in this war torn country.
Whether you are interested in learning about other cultures or are simply looking for an entertaining read, I highly recommend this well told story.
Thank you, Mr. Hosseini August 13, 2008 I enjoyed "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini - it was a runaway bestseller and was made into a movie.
But "A Thousand Splendid Suns" tore me up. I had to put the book down several times during the last 50 pages because I was crying so hard. The love and friendship that grew between the two women of the story was so movingly and beautifully rendered, my heart swelled with compassion. What the Taliban did to the women of Afganistan was beyond horrible. Oh but we of more enlightened times and places must always remember our freedoms are new and dearly won!
Thank you, Mr. Hosseini.
Great novel August 13, 2008 It was incredibly empowering to see these women rise from the ashes of oppression and the rubble of Kabul to make better lives for themselves at all costs. I wanted to weep one moment, and rejoice the next.
