Where's My Utopia, Dude? June 10, 2006 9 out of 22 found this review helpful
When I heard the title of Tolle's new book, I thought, "It's about some kind of utopia."
But it isn't. It's about what it would take to get there.
Here is his description: "'A new heaven' is the emergence of a transformed state of human consciousness, and 'a new earth' is its reflection in the physical realm."
Only speculation can envision where that transformed state might lead. So imagine a world where even half the human race were conscious; or even one-fourth; or even one-tenth. Consciousness generates a "vibrational frequency" as Tolle describes it. A kind of magnetic pull to anything around it. People around a conscious person are influenced by that pull. Anyone who has heard Tolle in person has felt that. It's like being drawn toward something so perfect and profound you want to be part of that state of existence. Multiply that by millions of people generating the same attraction and then imagine the effect on those who are not conscious and the new earth it could create.
A new earth where no one would wantonly harm another living thing because to do so would feel like harming yourself; where there would be no need for laws or the institutions that enforce them; where people would live in harmony with each other and their environment; where wars would cease to exist; where people by natural inclination would look out for others so no one would be in want. This perfect world could come about because of the awakened awareness of our own true nature--consciousness.
But that's my idea of utopia. Tolle only implies how such a world may be possible.
And of course as the Taoist writer Deng Ming Dao says, "There is no utopia. There never will be. There is only the valiant attempt of each person to live spiritually in a world where spirituality is almost impossible."
We are fortunate in this period of time to have a great teacher like Eckhart Tolle to show us how to make spirituality possible. And to do it in such precise, clear language, profuse with examples and the words of other great spiritual teachers, as to make it possible for anyone who earnestly seeks spiritual truth to find it.
What one finds in reading this book is how to reach the perfection of the "new heaven" if not the "new earth. That may be all that's possible, and ultimately all that matters. -----
(As for the negative reviews of this book, ever notice the same tone of voice and language in all of them. I smell pranksters.)
Profound, simple, life-altering June 7, 2006 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Eckhart Tolle or his writings. I read his words and I am stunned with realization. What he gives us is so simple and clear and wise. I feel that I've always known what he shares, but without recognizing it. A light bulb pops on in my head, and it is that "Ah hah!" moment that oh so subtly makes a gigantic difference in the way you see and what you do. Above and beyond happiness or sorrow, there is joy in this utter peace that does not come and go, but is always there. And how great that months and months after "A New Earth" was published, Amazon users are still reading it and reviewing it. I'm guesing that, like myself, a lot of people recieved this book as a holiday gift, and WHAT a gift! If only our leaders could sat down and be taught what it contains.
Thanks, Eckhart! I have no idea how a human being acquired such miraculous wisdom, but I am eternally grateful that you recieved it and give it.
A reminder June 4, 2006 6 out of 18 found this review helpful
This book is designed to remind you who you really are. Eckhart accomplishes what he alone could not do. He has opened the flood gates of awareness upon those who can understand his words.
If you resist the words of this book, you are resisting your own reflection. If you feel that he has cheated or manipulated you in some way, you really don't understand at all.
He is simply trying to rouse you from your slumber to take part in this life the way it was meant to be lived.
If you cannot stand to look at your own reflection, your life will be hell. If you can accept and embrace what you see, your hell will turn into heaven.
He is simply trying to hand you a mirror. It is the most precious gift he can give you.
Osho and Tolle May 24, 2006 15 out of 40 found this review helpful
Steve Right wrote "In this book Tolle takes the teachings of Osho, krishnamurti, Buddha and the new non duality theory and tries to make them his own..." I agree with Steve. I would like to contact him. my email: v_stanca@yahoo.com
It is possible Eckhart just to tell words heard from Osho, without enlightment. A few from Krishnamurti, too...2* for Osho ideas, anyway...I wonder if he met Osho, or just read his words, like me... STEVE: What about Osho, did you meet him?
Extremely Enlightening Book May 22, 2006 11 out of 23 found this review helpful
In the book A New Earth Awakening To Your Life Purpose written by Eckhart Tolle, Eckhart provides a brilliant introduction to the opening of Oneness with the Universe. On a rating scale of one to five I would rate this book at 100 (highly above a 5). However, I feel like the real purpose of this book is not to inform a person of the True meaning of Consciousness; it is to help a person understand that we ARE Consciousness; that we are all interconnected spiritual Beings with the same Power of the Universe. If you are looking for a "how to" book then this book will most likely be a dissappoitment; because the answers you ask are already within yourself. Ego is what prevents a person from connecting to the answers; and I feel like the message that Eckhart really wants to help provide through this book is not "Here is information to help you understand the relationship between Consciousness and Ego" but that it is "There is a seed of awareness that wants to take hold of your hand; you did not find this book, this book found you through my writings. Open up your mind, and join it."
