An passionate plea for awareness. March 10, 2008 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
A fundamental Buddhist teaching of mindfulness, or awareness, is the main subject of the book. I find it of interest to read how different people express the experience of awareness. Eckhart's writing is filled with passion (sometimes too much so) and length. Most of the book is devoted to describing what ails us, ego of course, with awareness being the antidote.
He does take tangents into the world of new age spirituality and grandiosity (we are in the dawn of a world wide awakening which is news to me) as well as scientific or historical topics which he is misinformed about. This can distract from what he does well, descriptions of ego and descriptions of awareness from a very personal perspective.
Perhaps his book will lead people to dig deeper into the subject of Buddhism and awareness. For more reading on the same basic topic, which includes instructions on HOW to practice and develop awareness, (something that is lacking in Eckhart's book) pick up; "Mindfulness in Plain English" by Gunaratana.
Loved "A New Earth" March 9, 2008 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I really did enjoy this book. A very refreshing view of our current state of society. I found the book uplifting and adding the webcast with Eckhart Tolle and Oprah was definatley an enjoyable addition. I think the fact that he doesn't represent any specific religion and neither condemns or recommends a specific religion will make it more acceptable to a larger audience. Regardless of your religious preferance anyone can take something usefull and positive from this book as long as it is read with an open mind. Debra A
A New Earth March 9, 2008 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
A New Earth was an excellent book but was very detailed and written in a lot of depth. You had to read the book for content only and then think about it after you read it. It is a book that can be read over and over again to realize the full import of the message. Mr. Tolle on Oprah's book review helps to clarify many of the questions left to the reader. If one wants to awaken with new ideas, this is the book to help you find your purpose in life.

The book was delivered promptly and in excellent shape. I would definitely buy from them again.
Don't Read Unless You Are Courageous Enough to Face the Truth March 9, 2008 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have never read a book that had the full scope of our human condition, and the reality of what is going on. This is that book. This is a book that can help you in your awakening. Just read and re-read often the truths about the pain body, and work with the ideas. It will help you greatly. Anybody who "knocks" this book and doesn't see its value, obviously isn't ready for that transformation. The ego doesn't want us to touch our "pain body", and is certainly afraid of our even entertaining the idea of looking at it. I do believe it takes very courageous people who are commmited to their spiritual growth to work with these ideas. Amy
