3 out of 5 stars Good start, good middle, disappointing ending   July 30, 2008

This is definitely a chick lit book. Soul searching around the world. I love the first trip. The second trip makes sense. The third trip left me saying "Huh?"

3 out of 5 stars Good, but not great.   July 29, 2008

I enjoyed reading this novel and ironically began reading it on a flight to Italy. The book dragged a bit in the middle section for me and I felt that at times the author could be a bit self centered. However, I think the purpose of the novel was to tell the story of the author finding herself and naturally parts of the novel are bound to be self centered as the book is focusing on herself! This was just one woman's exceptional self discovery that she decided to put down in print and I believe that many people go on journeys of self exploration. People discover themselves in different manners and I do not feel that its fair to judge the author based on the manner in which she discovered herself. I think readers need to keep in mind that this is one story told by the author about the author. The book is decently entertaining and I particularly liked the section about Italy. I recommend this as a summer reading book but I wouldn't describe this novel as life changing.

5 out of 5 stars Chew Slowly   July 28, 2008

I picked up Eat, Pray, Love in an airport over a year ago. I have been reading it off and on since then and still have not finished it. I am thoroughly enjoying this book. Perhaps the reviewers who left a 1 or 2 star rating read it in one day. Eat, Pray, Love is not to be wolfed down, but chewed slowly. I have found my own spiritual journey through reading this one. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Eat Pray Love   July 28, 2008

I think a lot of people missed the point and putting it down before finishing it? What a loss that would be. I did not see this as a travel log in the least bit. I loved her humor how she grapples with her mind and trying to concentrate because Lord knows, I am in the same boat when it comes to focusing and letting all the negative energy out of my head. After all, my brain isn't a condo and I'm not renting out space to anyone.

I loved how she described her little Ashram buddy only 18 years old.

I probably could have done with out some of the descriptions when it comes to self-satisfying herself, but I don't think it is a big deal in the book and certainly taught me more about looking outside of myself and into myself - as my troubles are minimal compared to some of the people she experienced life with.

It truly is it's title and the fact she separated each stage - well, all the better. So many wonderful little bits and pieces of life. Good for her.

Liz, you done good.

3 out of 5 stars Entertaining   July 28, 2008
I listened to the book. I think it was more entertaining that way since the author did the reading. Book club gave it 3 out of 4 stars.
