Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars An excellent story along with two sorta OK stories   September 12, 2007

Hmm. There's not much info on this product in the list above, so maybe I'd better clue you in on what we have here.

It's a single cassette tape, originally priced at $5.99. It contains one long and two shorter stories. The long one is Janet Dawson's "Little Red Corvette," which is the 5-star story. It also contains "The Kid and the Man from Pinkerton's" by Marele Day and "Heels" by Donna Huston Murray.

The Dawson story is as good as her novels. PI Jerry Howard, a woman, is asked to investigate why a repair shop is trying to sell a classic red Corvette way below the market. A potential buyer is afraid there's something wrong, so he asks his friend Jerry to check it out. As she does, she finds murder and skulduggery galore in the history of the car. There are a few weak moments, but nothing serious. I really enjoyed the story.

Day's story about the man from Pinkerton's sets an interesting atmosphere involving a Pinkerton man chasing "the Kid," a gunslinger who has killed 37 men, across the desert. The situation is interesting. The quickly reached conclusion is not very satisfying. As it ended, my wife and I looked at each other and shrugged.

We also listened to Murray's story, "Heels." That was four days ago. I have to tell you that I can't remember what it was about. There's a sentence on the back of the tape box about the story: "A not-so-innocent woman is dead. PI Sandy McGuinn knows how to attract 'malcontents of the opposite sex' -- can she attract the killer?" Even with that hint, I can't recall the details of the story. Maybe it's not very memorable, eh?
