This book rocks! November 7, 2002 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book about famous rock stars, their lives and their deaths, was very interesting. It goes into depth about each star. Together, their stories tell the history of rock and roll music. "Rock 'N' Roll Heaven" featured information about the childhoods and interests of many rock stars who have passed on, including Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Randy Rhoads, Eric Carr, Elvis Presley, Bob Marley, Jerry Garcia, and John Lennon, just to name a few. It also had many extras such as Kurt Cobain's suicide letter. I will never forget many of the things I learned when I read the book. One of the author's opinions was "MTV spawned a generation of artists who concerned themselves with their look as much as their sound." I very deeply agree with this. Look is very important for today's artist. New styles and trends are set frequently. I think some artists are more concerned with what they look like rather than what they sound like. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes rock and roll music. The lives of the musicians are very interesting. Most rock stars started studying music early in their life. I understand their music a lot better since I have found our about their lives and deaths. The rock 'n' roll lifestyle includes fast cars, big houses, etc. It seems that a great number of rock stars died from murder and drugs. This is probably because of their lifestyles. The author's points and opinions were well researched. There was enough information on each artist so that I could fully understand what went on during their lives. The stories of the musicians were clear and easy to read. If you are looking for a good book about rock and roll stars, pick this one up!
