Great for small stuff, Bad for real jobs. July 26, 2003 If you want to change the oil, bulbs, plugs it's OK. If you want to change the valve cover on a 1986 forget it. Your better off to find your own way around the EGR on the passenger's side. Chilton is still king.
1968-1982 Repair if you can read manual March 5, 2003 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Haynes as usual tends to explain in writing but only shows in picture a few of the late model year designs. I have a 1968 vette and their book did not have a single pic to help explain the tear down or rebuild process of anything. If you can read a page and with no pictures perform the task then you might get some use out of this book. If your smart you'll buy a Chiltons.
Not useful for the LT1, LT5 series April 16, 2002 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Like most of the Haynes manuals, the info is based upon a complete teardown and rebuild. The problem is that the C4 series Corvette spanned from the 1984 to the 1996 model years. There were many changes along the way. That said, expect to see plenty of useful info on the older tuned port cars, and the bizarre 4+3 OD manual tranmission. You will wish that you had additional information if you own one of the LT1 series cars. I am currently struggling with the removal of the bellhousing in my 1993 6-spd car, and this book has zero information on the removal of the reverse style (pull) clutch assembly.
Good book for the layman October 18, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this book to learn how to do the simpler things on my Corvette (I'm not a professional mechanic) and it fits the bill wonderfully. It has a lot of detailed pictures and procedures that are easy to understand and follow. I don't know that I'll try and rebuild the engine using their procedures (too complicated for me) but it does give you an overview so if you do have to take it in you at least know what the mechanic is talking about or going to work on. I felt money spent on this book was money well spent, especially if you have a car that constantly has some little thing going wrong with it and you don't want to take it to the shop each time.
Haynes Review November 26, 1999 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
This is a good manual, covering years from 1984 to 1996, however not being year specific it can not equal the GM shop manual for a specific year.
