Product Description Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

Highly Recommend May 2, 2008 This will be a book that I will remember forever. I appreciate the author's insight and would highly recommend this book to anyone who seeks to know God better.
Breaking out of our God box May 2, 2008 Most of us have a concept of God that limits his awesomeness in one way or another. We view anything that moves us out of this "comfort zone" as a threat to our belief system. William P. Young has found a way to delight our imaginations while, at the same time, delightfully challenge our limited concept of our Creator. The Shack is an eye-opening adventure into the life of a man on a spiritual journey of discovery, both of himself and of his God. As you find yourself transported into this gripping story, you are sure to discover something about yourself asa well. This short story is packed with all of what makes for a good read... and then some.
Incredible May 2, 2008 This work of fiction was captivating. It has managed to do something that few books are capable of doing. It has altered my perceptions regarding love, relationships, and circumstances to more properly align with the Scriptures. I refer back to it in my thoughts daily as I walk the walk.
Life changing book! May 2, 2008 The Shack is a life changing book....I read it and bought six copies to share with family and friends. I recommend it highly!
Thought Provoking Fiction May 2, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I just finished "The Shack" and was very touched by it. However, there were some statements made and ideas put forth about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit that didn't quite sit right with me. Overall, I think the purpose of the story is to try and bring people to God, even Christians who may have drifted away...and there were times while reading it I cried and felt like I had no clue what being so close to God is like, which motivates me to trust Him more. I also got bogged down somewhere in the middle, in the ongoing conversations and explanations of certain things...and ended up skipping some of it because it was too involved and complicated. I feel that a new Christian or someone who is not a Christian may end up totally abandoning the book at this point, because they would become lost in the words. I guess I'm trying to say it was written in a way that makes loving Jesus and trusting in the Trinity more complicated than it needs to be, and may end up discouraging some people.
Otherwise, it was a good piece of fiction, with a wonderful message of overcoming pain, grief and working towards forgiveness.
