Product Description

After a summer spent trying to prevent a catastrophic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson-a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any "normal" friends.

But things don't stay quiet for long. Percy soon discovers there is trouble at Camp Half-Blood: the magical borders which protect Half-Blood Hill have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and the only safe haven for demigods is on the verge of being overrun by mythological monsters. To save the camp, Percy needs the help of his best friend, Grover, who has been taken prisoner by the Cyclops Polyphemus on an island somewhere in the Sea of Monsters, the dangerous waters Greek heroes have sailed for millennia-only today, the Sea of Monsters goes by a new name.the Bermuda Triangle.

Now Percy and his friends-Grover, Annabeth, and Tyson-must retrieve the Golden Fleece from the Island of the Cyclopes by the end of the summer or Camp Half-Blood will be destroyed. But first, Percy will learn a stunning new secret about his family-one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon's son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.

5 out of 5 stars immensely better than book 1!   August 19, 2008
I enjoyed this book so much more than I did book 1. I liked "The Lightning Thief" but there were a few things about it I didn't enjoy, mostly the seemingly random monsters they encountered. I feel the author made a perfect move to take an existing story in mythology (the Odyssey) and use that has the basis of the plot. the story just flows better this way, IMO, and doesn't have than random "monster of the week" feel the first book had. I like the addition of Tyson to the story and the conflicts this bring up, liked Tantalus and his role in the story, and loved the story's conclusion which was a very interesting plot twist.

when I read the first book, I was truthfully not sure about the very light tone of the book (I've always gravitated towards darker tales like the His Dark Materials trilogy or later part of the Harry Potter series), but have come to enjoy the lightheartedness of the stories and is a fun alternative to some of the more depressing YA books out there.

5 out of 5 stars Encouragement for reading   August 17, 2008
My son has a reading learning disability and the audio book not only helps him read the book, but encourages him to do so. He loves the Percy Jackson series and requested this audio book even though it wasn't for a school assignment. This is the first time he has ever shown an interest in reading and the audio book makes reading fun and easier for him.

5 out of 5 stars #1 with grandson   August 16, 2008
My grandson loves this set of books. He read the first one and requested the full set for his birthday. What grandmother wouldn't fulfill that request and encourage reading! I haven't read them, but he says that they're really good.

4 out of 5 stars Needs more improvement but still very good   August 7, 2008
Good greek myths like Polymphemeus's Cave and the Golden Fleece but still could have some improvement.

5 out of 5 stars The sea monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book   July 31, 2008
The Sea of Monsters is a very exceiting book. Percy Jackson and his friends Annabeth, Grover and Tyson the Cyclops go on a quest for the Goldon Fleece to save the camp. I would highly recommend it for any age interested in Ancient Greek Mythology!
