Product Description
There comes a time in every mans life where he has to decide whether to conform or break out. Ninety-nine percent of us choose to accept the constraints imposed by society. The rest become outlaws. And for this one percent--those who set their own standards, follow their own values, pursue their own esthetic--the outlaw motorcyclist community offers sanctuary.
Motorcyclists have always been outlaws to some extent, just by choosing such a dangerous and flamboyant sport. But the one percenters live the outlaw life 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
One Percenter: The Legend of The Outlaw Bikers tells the story of this rebellion without a cause--other than freedom and living to the extreme. From the earliest days of the subculture--when World War II veterans began forming early motorcycle clubs--to modern times; this is the real-life account of the wild ones, who one-by-one made their own world.

Read well it has a hidden meaning May 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I started to read this book then put it down. Having read most books based around and written by noted authors about the 1% lifestyle, and from both sides of the fence (one of the best being "Freedom, Credos from the Road" - Sonny Barger) and goings on within it for the past 60 years maybe I have been 1%ed out as far as books are concerned.
No way, you really do need to read this book and then take a view on how the next 60 years will turn out. if you also read "Freedom" from an outsiders point of view and then taking both books into consideration you should form a view. The ending came as a bit of a shock really, making the reader sit up and take notice of what is around him/her and what may lay ahead in the future. Altogether a great read and well recommended. Thanks Dave and see you on the right side I hope!!
Insightful book! May 3, 2008 This is a great book that explains the history of the 1%ers, and give a great insight on the culture.
one percenter: the legend of the outlaw biker April 25, 2008
This book was a very in general book, no real insight into what makes a brotherhood of one percenters tic. more
like a history lesson about motorcycling in general.
Not a real biker book, outsiders look in April 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is by a writer who obviously sold out the culture years ago to go commercil. I read it and Just finished Sonny Bargers Hells Angel book.
Read Sonnys if you are a biker , Read this one if you are a school girl doing a book report.
Read the title first. March 6, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The majority of reviews here are from people who obviously expected something from this book it never claimed to be. Check the title. One Percenter: The LEGEND of the outlaw biker. The key word is Legend. To the average Jane or Joe Q Public, (or as the book would call them, "the Straights"), this book will be the most accurate way to define what it means to be a One Percenter. If you are with it, then you already know this stuff, but hopefully you will enjoy the ride. The Author weaves true history with real and honest attitude. He says honest, even righteous things about our riding brothers and sisters the way motorcycle club members talked back in the day. Falling into the pages of this book is like tripping back into that time. This is a seldom, and refreshingly swashbuckling comparison of the historical ingredients it takes to make a rebel. It's about how that rebellion spawned an enduring and passionate group of people who don't live a single moment without their beloved 2 wheeled machine at the front of whatever they are doing. This is about how the motorcycle industry has used the "stuff LEGENDS are made of" to parlay its storied past into a non-stop ride into the future. I really enjoyed this book, and have read it 2 times so far. It was everything I expected, with a voice that is fun and familiar. Lighten up, go for a ride, and answer the call of the rebel in you.
