5 out of 5 stars Fantastic   August 5, 2008
This book kept me interested from page one to the very end. I didn't want to put it down. I love John Hart's writing style, he does a superb job in regards to description and really draws you into the book. I hated reaching the end of it, I just wanted it to go on.

1 out of 5 stars Ridiculous   July 30, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

What lawyer, or any educated person, would make these decisions? This plot is so far fetched and so painful that I sent straight into the recycling bin rather then pass it on. You hate the main character not only b/c he is dull but he is so, so dumb that it becomes impossible to respect anything about the book, plot or characters. The narration, his complete lack of common sense, inability to draw elementary conclusions, vocalize anything and the way-to-drawn out sister/did it/saving theory was utterly ridiculous. While the last few chapters were equally painful and predictable, I was just happy to see that Works' character, albeit at gunpoint, was finally allowed/able to make an actual connection.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic read, I couldn't put it down!   June 19, 2008
I found this book at the bottom of a box of books and started it because I had nothing else to read. Page one I was hooked! Very fast read, good twists and turns. Not too much legal mumbo jumbo. Definitely a keeper!

5 out of 5 stars Psychological thriller incorporating a reflection of society   June 11, 2008
The King of Lies is John Hart's debut book and reads like writing is old hat for him. The main character, "Work" is a flawed individual who reflects so many societal problems. Ezra Pickens is Work's domineering father who goes missing and eighteen months later his murdered body is found. From that point forward in the book it is a tour de force of reflections of society through the characters while maintaining a fast paced "who done it" story line with a often times disturbing psychological angle.

I am looking forward to reading Mr. Hart's second novel, Down River and believe he may become a writer that people wait anxiously for his next novel every year or so.

4 out of 5 stars A great book for a fun eveing of suspense reading.   June 9, 2008
I think most readers that enjoy a good book will have a fine time with this one.
