Product Description Assisting in the selection and understanding of a wide range of available machine configurations, this guide highlights 3 detailed case studies of the author's experience in the development of new automation machines and his attempts to bring them to market. The author studies cost justifying automation, patents, and intellectual property, as well costing examples based on real-world situations, examines system specifications and their impact on the design process, reviews traditional automation machine configurations, their strengths and weaknesses, and related case studies, discusses the types and ranges of available feeders and conveyors, and reviews types of actuators and their strengths and weaknesses.

This book is not for designers January 19, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The book covers many interesting topics, but rather superficially. It tells you about the various aspects related to design of automatic machinery, but not enough about anything so that you can actually apply it in designing machinery. Even the case studies do not get to technical details and are mainly descriptive.
So, if you just want to know the names of the various aspects of automation and a description of what the names mean, this book is fine. If you actually want to design something, it is disappointing.
