Coming from a Party Boy - It WORKS May 14, 2007 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I was a binge/weekend drinker for 8 years and couldn't picture going out and still having a great social life without drinking. After reading this book, I immediately quit drinking because you start to realize that alcohol doesn't really provide you with anything beneficial...it almost becomes common sense to not drink rather than feeling like you are giving something up. If you ever wake up saying that you aren't going to drink again, or are going to cut down but somehow manage to get back to the same point, READ THIS BOOK and get control over this bad habit and truly feel free.

Helped me change my life! January 28, 2007 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
Last year, I searched Amazon for a book that might give me some advice/support on ways to help me control my intake of alcohol. I'd been a heavy drinker for nearly 35 years. I had no intent of quitting drinking when I bought the book. I read the reviews and had mixed feelings.
But, I will tell you that if you have any concern about how much you drink, if you have guilts or regrets over what you have done or said while you were drinking, and if you can read Allen's book with an open mind and a desire to improve yourself, I am convinced it will change your life starting the day you finish the book!!!
I'm a tough [...] and people consider me a man's man. But, I will tell you that I cried tears of joy when I finished Allen's book! Don't let yourself be swayed by Gertrude's review of this book. And, I won't tell you the secret of Allen's teaching.
Buy it! It is a tiny price for the value it will bring to your life. Be open minded and sober when you read it. I am a much better man, father, husband, professional... all because of this book. Do yourself and those around you a favor. Give it a read!

I was a heavy smoker and drinker for almost 3 decades, until my COPD diagnosis last fall (at the age of 42). The situation was absolutely hopeless, my dr told me to quit smoking immediately, and there was a chance that my emphysema could reverse, but attempting to quit had been TORTURE in the past and I knew even this wouldn't make me quit. As a last ditch effort, I ordered The Easy Way to Quit Smoking, and...it WORKED. within two months I stopped my 2-3 pack per day habit. I've been smoke free for ten months. At the same time that i purchased it, I also bought The Easy Way to Control Alcohol. It took a while to manage both, but as of tonight I'm 2 weeks and two days completely sober. I never could've done it without these books. Make sure you give it a few reads, it takes some time for the info to sink in. I HIGHLY recommend these Allen Carr's books, my quality of life has been drastically improved for buying them.
Carr promises the earth, the moon and the stars (but of course he cannot deliver) July 29, 2006 9 out of 36 found this review helpful
Once again, Carr's central truth is: To know how the addiction works is to be free of it. Unfortunately this is simply a false dawn. The greater the need for a solution, the more willingly we suspend disbelief and trust in a system that promises an end to our problem. This is not to say the book contains nothing of worth. But Carr's demand for total deference and his insistence on offering a complete cure inevitably prepare us for eventual disappointment. We are all more intelligent than we are capable and awareness of the insanity of addiction never saved anyone from the disease.
