Amazon.com Written by a medical doctor and a certified nutritional consultant (James F. Balch, M.D., and Phyllis A. Balch, C.N.C.), this revised and expanded edition of Prescription for Nutritional Healing is one of the most complete, up-to-date guides to nutritional, herbal, and complementary therapies available. Prescription for Nutritional Healing starts with the premise: "Good nutrition is the foundation of good health." In the 600 pages that follow, the authors expand on this concept, explaining how to heal the body, achieve optimum health, strengthen the immune system, and increase energy levels using vitamins, minerals, herbs, and dietary food supplements. The book contains three sections. "Understanding the Elements of Health" provides a thorough introduction to nutrition, diet, and wellness; offers guidelines for selecting and preparing food; and discusses hot topics such as aspartame (Is it safe?) and phytochemicals. "The Disorders" gives an A-Z reference to handling more than 300 health problems, including the latest research for treating AIDS, chronic fatigue syndrome, infertility, and for slowing the effects of aging. The final section, "Remedies and Therapies," explains how to implement the suggested treatments. Easy to understand and use, this book is an indispensable medical resource for both health professionals and laypeople.
Product Description Natural health's number-one bestseller for more than twenty years, completely revised and updated.
With more than five million copies sold, Prescription for Nutritional Healing is the most trusted, comprehensive source on dietary supplements, vitamins, minerals, and herbs. A pioneer in the field of nutritional healing, Phyllis Balch passionately and meticulously researched and compiled this groundbreaking book. Now, a generation later, her message has more relevance than ever: consume fresh foods, avoid processed foods and those high in saturated fat, and optimize your intake of essential nutrients with the right supplements. Today's well-stocked vitamin and natural-health stores can be confusing, and people need Balch's clear, concise, landmark guide.
To help them make sense of the mind-numbing array of choices that are available, readers of Prescription for Nutritional Healing will:
- learn the basics of good nutrition; - find out how to balance vitamins and minerals so that the body can properly absorb both; - determine how best to treat 250 problems-from abscesses to wrinkles-using herbs, nutrition, and supplements; and - get the facts on other complementary therapies, like ayurveda, biofeedback, chiropractic care, and more. Great Book July 14, 2008 I highly recommend this book. I have three children, and I use this book to look things up all the time. It covers many health issues and gives great recommendations.
Great Reference Book! June 21, 2008 This is really a helpful and clearly written reference book worth having. It was recommended to me by numerous others. The fourth edition is out but I didn't find much difference and the third edition was available at a great price.
Prescription for Nutritional Healing 4th Edition June 14, 2008 A great book with a wealth of information in it. Every household should have one. I refer to it as the "fat book" because it has 868 pages in it, almost 300 pages more than the 2nd Edition. I highly recommend this book! Buy it!
Invaluable reference book! June 14, 2008 I love this book so much that I always try to keep up with the new editions. I've owned about 5 copies of this, and whenever I find someone in a health crisis I end up giving my copy away. It's critical to have in your library. Extremely useful for health issues and has nice info on cleansing and general wellness towards the back of the book. 2 thumbs up!!!
Very informative, helpful, thorough June 12, 2008 This book is very helpful when you have a diagnosis. Its layout is set up to use the ailment or disease as the index. Many options are given to help relieve and in some situations cure the ailment. Options for dietary changes, supplements and behavior changes are given. Our family has found this very helpful.
