Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended can do things that Photoshop has never done before, such as importing and editing video, and animating any object in a file. Here is the first book to provide a comprehensive look at the new features for 3D animation and video in Photoshop Extended. Author Chad Perkins, an established video presenter and classroom instructor on Photoshop, video, and 3D, brings the creative potential of these new features into focus. This book is a valuable resource for Photoshop users who want to learn about video and 3D using their favorite application, as well as video producers and 3D artists who want to incorporate Photoshop into their work or use it more effectively.

  • Learn to move, rotate, and scale 3D objects within Photoshop Extended
  • Understand and work with lighting and camera angles
  • Create special effects like glowing silhouettes and drop shadows on 3D objects
  • Use layer masks with 3D objects for special effects
  • Modify textures applied to 3D objects seamlessly within Photoshop
  • Edit bump maps and patterns for more realistic 3D objects
  • Import, edit, compress, and export video (with audio!)
  • Use Photoshop to animate images.

This is an excellent book for anyone working with Adobe Creative Suite, or Production Suite, or any multimedia professionals. The tutorials are supported by a CD containing all necessary files. It's important that the user has Photoshop CS3 EXTENDED, in order to work with the video and animation files. If you have the program, purchase this book.Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended for 3D and Video

4 out of 5 stars is Adobe encroaching on 3D animation?   April 3, 2008
4 out of 8 found this review helpful

Photoshop is probably the most common image editing program. Highly refined by Adobe. Yet Adobe is continually pushing the envelope on Photoshop's functionality. This book describes 2 important new usages. For importing and editing video. And for 3D animation. To be sure, there are certainly other packages that do these.

It looks to me that Adobe wants to encroach on their fields. Namely for 3D animation. If you are already in that arena, then the editing abilities of CS3 described here might seen ok but minimal. An initial effort. But keep an eye on Adobe. They may be doing something out of the Microsoft playbook. Where the first products are so-so. But then Adobe will progressively iterate. Easier for them to do this and get large improvements. Whereas existing products like Maya could face diminishing returns.
