Product Description “Do you still miss your little Bonnie?”
This one sentence, spoken by a madman in an anonymous phone call, is all it takes to drag Eve Duncan right back to that horrifying day years ago when her only daughter vanished without a trace. Since that day, her life has become an obsession to find Bonnie’s remains and put the pain of her death to rest. However, one man wants nothing more than to prevent that from happening. He is every woman’s waking nightmare: a brilliant, ruthless killer whose hunting ground stretches from coast to coast. But taunting Eve Duncan might be his first and last mistake. . .
For Eve is armed with more than just her talent as a forensic sculptor and her fierce protective nature. She brings with her former Navy SEAL Joe Quinn, an Atlanta detective who will do whatever it takes to bring Eve some kind of peace, even if he has to lie to her to do it.
Eve’s only salvation may be through the mysterious skills of another woman whose chilling talent leaves her as tormented as Eve - and as driven to bring this monster to justice. But when lives are in danger, every step could be a trap, and every inch of solid ground seems to be shifting under their feet. And this killer wants nothing more than to lure Eve further and further into his swamp of madness. . .

Loved it! September 13, 2008 I've read a number of books in this series and this one was just as exciting as the others. I look forward to more....
Not very well written, imho. September 1, 2008 This is my first book by this author, and the last. I'm surprised that she has such a following. Perhaps I'm biased by the fact that I just read nine books by James Lee Burke, and he's such a great writer - but I don't find Ms. Johanson very competent - not in character development, plot development, or general presentation of the language. It's also always kind of weird to me to read these female writers who create hideous serial killers who perpetrate their horrers on women (or children) - Tess Gerritsen is another writer of this genre, although Ms. Gerritsen's work is much better written than (at least this book by) Ms. Johanson. For me a generally boring read, so dull that I was pretty much skimming the pages by the time I was halfway through.
Quicksand or Quagmire? August 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
To be honest with you, I did not like this book at all. Mind you, I didn't finish it so I don't know if it ends well or not. It was confusing to me and the character development was lacking in definition and motivation. Maybe there were just too many people and the "bad guy" was just too unbelievably resourceful and violent. Not impressed. I have read all the reviews and I now realize that I should have read "Stalemate" and "Pandora's Box" first in order to understand the historical relevance of the search for Bonnie. Should not a story be able to stand on its own? Every Sue Grafton and Janet Evanovich novel starts out by introducing Kinsey or Stephanie as if we know nothing about them. The series aspect is indicated by the titles of the books, sequentially or alphabetically so that is a major clue that the story is progressing, the main characters the same with new villains. I would like to know more about Megan so I may read "Pandora" and learn her story (which I guess to be quite tragic). As for Eve, I can't fathom how Joe or Montalvo find her so utterly fascinating and worthwhile to put up with all her feminine hysteria and uncontrolled verbiage. I did not care for her very much which made it easier to close the book and walk away without knowing the resolution to the story. It isn't easy for me to not finish a book once I've started it but I'm learning.
Another Iris Johansen winner August 12, 2008 I'm a big Iris Johansen fan and this book did not disappoint me. Read Pandora's Daughter first, if you haven't already read it. You will understand the character of Megan so much better if you do. I loved the ending of Quicksand! I can't wait for the next book!!
Very Good Book... August 6, 2008 Since I read the first Eve Duncan book, I was hooked!! But to be totally honest, I really thought that Eve would finally find her daughter Bonnie's remains in "Quicksand". I was sooo disapointed that this wasn't the case. I think this has gone long enough. I just hope the next book in the series 'finally' puts an end to all the "never-ending" serial killers that keep popping up and finally let Eve find closure.
