| Customer Reviews:
Basic July 9, 2008 I bought this book with some prior knowledge and already owning a school bus. Books like this are often times very basic, as the author needs to get preliminary ideas and concepts down for the reader first. I was disappointed that the author took it no farther than the basics in most of his writing. I found a lot of both the broad and specific information to be obvious, but for some people it may provide great insight.
For those of you who have no idea about where to start in building a bus into a home, then this book is for you. But if you have no idea on where to start, then you probably don't have the skills necessary or the creativity it requires to build a bus. The author even says that you need to be handy in order to do all this. This means that this book is somewhat of a problematic thing because you have to have skills and creativity to undertake such a project as the author says, but if you have those skills and creativity, then you probably don't need this book because you already know where to start on building a bus and are capable of understanding the basic ideas of how to convert a bus.
Granted, the good things that this book has to offer are: - how to raise the roof of a bus - cool pictures of already converted buses - how to diagram the cross section of your bus for building cabinetry - some mistakes made on previous bus conversions, and how to avoid/overcome them
Bottom Line: It's worth the money for a beginner, but as a beginner you should be acquiring more in depth knowledge about carpentry, metal-working, electronics/wiring, appliances, propane, auto mechanics, etc. This book will help tie these things together in a basic way for wanderlusting bus-builders.
A great guide to bus conversions. August 8, 2004 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
If you are thinking of converting any bus to a motorhome then you should have this book. This book will help you decide what bus is suited to building your motorhome. The one thing I love about this book is it explains the conversion sequence: It tells you what to do and in what order to do them once your vehicle is ready to be fitted out.The book includes sections on solar energy, accessories, sample floor plans, etc. It also shows various buses that have been converted to show you what can be done to buses. Many photographs and diagrams throughout make this book a valuable bus conversion source. Its definitely a comprehensive guide.
