Product Description
To many people, a wheel loader is called a PayLoader, thanks to the dominance of the classic rubber-tired, hydraulic front-end loader first developed by the Frank G. Hough company in 1944. When International Harvester acquired Hough and combined it with its struggling construction equipment division in 1974, PayLine was born, with the PayLoader as its signature machine. This book tells the story of PayLine, which marked the high point of International Harvester's foray into construction equipment. Oscar H. Will III chronicles the company's early efforts, its success with machines ranging from the PayLoader to the PayHauler, and it's expansion right up to its sale to Dresser Industries in 1982. With attention to each particular model, including history, specifications, market position, and color photographs of these mighty machines at work, this book is a fitting tribute to International Harvester's giants in the earth, and a critical chapter in the story of American industry.

OLD RUSTY IRON STILL WORKING IN THE DIRT!! August 12, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Excellent book on history of International Harvestor and Frank G. Hough construction equipment companies.Describes the creation and merger of these companies and their subsequent success and failures of their products.I enjoy reading construction machinery books that are not afraid to describe in detail why a particular piece of equipment failed in the field due to some type of design flaw. This author did not disappoint me in that area.As always plenty of neat photos of brand new equipment right out of the factory and also in use at job sites past to present.Only minor gripe I have is the dedication page credits some of the authors machinery photos that are nowhere to be found. This seems trivial but seems to be a trend as another earthmover book I have just thumbed thru very obviously has dropped the ball big time in accuracy and description. But that is a review for another day.
Payline is great reading March 30, 2007 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
