Product Description
Behind Rosewood's grand facades, where the air smells like apples and Chanel No. 5 and infinity pools sparkle in landscaped backyards, nothing is as it seems. It was here, back in seventh grade, that five best friends shared everything—Seven jeans, MAC makeup, and their deepest, darkest secrets. For Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily, it was a dream come true . . . until Alison, the most beautiful of them all, suddenly vanished. Now someone named A has turned their charmed lives into a living nightmare. Emily has been shipped off to her hyper-conservative cousins in Iowa. Aria is stuck living with her dad and his home-wrecker girlfriend. And Spencer fears she had something to do with Alison's murder. But Hanna's fate is far worse than all of that—she's clinging to life in the hospital, because she knew too much. With A's threats turning dangerous and Ali's killer still on the loose, the girls must uncover the truth—about A, about Ali, and about what happened to Hanna—before they become A's next victims. But as they unravel Rosewood's mysteries and secrets, will it bring an end to the horror . . . or is this just the beginning?

the most suspenseful in the series so far June 3, 2008 I have been following this series ever since I read the first book, and admittedly, I've read all of the books several times, trying to figure out the identity of "a"/Ali's killer, and hadn't figured it out, no matter how hard I tried to put all the clues together, because the author does an excellent job of throwing you off. That is the thing I love most about these books, the fact that it keeps you in suspense from start till finish, as the author adds more and more to the storyline. So of course, I eagerly awaited the release of novel #4, and was happy to see that this one was the most suspenseful one yet. I finished this one a few hours after having purchased it, literally not being able to put it down. So many new details and secrets are revealed, one having to do with the "accident" that the main characters had been keeping a secret for years. I never in a million years would have guessed the thing that the character of Jenna revealed in this book!
There were only two things disappointing about this book. #1 was the identity of the mysterious "A" being revealed. Now obviously I had already known that this book would finally reveal who it was, but about mid-way through the book, I easily figured out who it was, despite the fact that the author cleverly tries to throw you off, but fails to do so. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out, I mean come on!
The second disappointing thing was the identity of Ali's supposed killer. Now hopefully this isn't the actual person, because if it is, the motive that ****** had to do so was seriously lame, and would definitely lower my standards of this book series.
The book also leaves you with more questions than answers, especially the ending, so if you thought that this was the conclusion, you are definitely wrong because there are still many, many loose ends that need to be tied up. One huge question still remains: is Ali actually dead?
All in all, it was definitely a good book, and I obviously can't wait for the 5th one to be released. Hopefully it will wrap everything up once and for all!
Simply...unbelievable! June 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Being an avid fan of the previous three books, I eagerly awaited "Unbelievable." When I finally got it, I devoured the book in one day!
Ms. Shepard's writing is excellent like always, and there are plenty of plot twists to keep you reading til the end. I thought I had figured out who A was several times in the beginning, but none of those theories were correct.
That being said, I figured out who A was right before the girls did, so that reveal wasn't as shocking as I hoped. However, the ending pages were filled with unresolved storylines and plot twists that left me on the edge of my seat.
I would definitely recommend this book, and the whole series, to anyone.
I Loved it and Hated it! May 31, 2008 I am a loyal Pretty Little Liars fan, and I have anticipated the release of Unbelievable, but now after I have finished the book, I feel a little dissapointed. The writing was just as great as the first three books, so descriptive and such vivid language, but the plot wasn't as great. The first few chapters were EXCELLENT, they were just as I had anticipated, it started off where Perfect left off. But then it started to go downhill, once one character started to be too nice and concerned, it was pretty obvious about who A was. I also felt that one of the four girl's reaction to A's identity and fate was very innaproprate. Also, I was angry that Ms. Shepard made Hanna so superficial in this book, in the other books, she came across superficial, but not overly, just like how every other girl is, but in this book, it just went over the top. I also felt that this book was mainly Aria and A's story, even though you didn't know A's identity from the beginning, it focused a lot on him/her. The ending was very fuzzy and it made many half-questions, and one HUGE question at the end. I feel though, that it is partly the publisher's fault for this slightly dissapointing fourth book. If the series was not extended to eight books, Unbelievable would probably be much more satisfying, instead of having to try to make more plotlines and having a half-openended ending.
Can't Wait For More May 29, 2008 I've been patting myself on the back ever since I finished reading this. The week leading up to its release, I re-read the other 3 books, going chapter by chapter jotting down possible suspects, possible motives, and clues, and was thrilled when I correctly guessed who A was. Which is not to say it was easy, the author threw a lot of curve balls. And while a lot of questions get answered in this book, even more get raised. I cannot wait for Book #5. Hurry up, Miss Shepard!
oddly inconclusive conclusion May 29, 2008 Surely, surely this isn't *it*. After four longish and suspenseful books, the revelations in the last pages of this book are just a let-down. And in fact, although we were lead to think that this would be the end, I'm not sure that it is. Yes, we know who "A" was. But do we know what happened to Ali, really? I don't believe that we do. And there are quite a few other things we don't know, when we start to think about it. I think that the reason this ending fizzles out is that there will be a fifth book, possibly very different in character from the first four, probably revolving around the trial of *****, the person accused of killing Ali. What will come out at that trial? What will *****'s defense be? This could be quite interesting. I don't believe that Sara Shepard has finished tantalizing us yet.
