Book Description When John Schilling, an unassuming mid-level accountant, went to work for the Columbia Hospital Corporation, he never expected to become the catalyst for the series of "whistleblower" cases that ripped through the healthcare industry in the late 1990s. But when he unwittingly discovered that the company was siphoning billions of dollars away from Medicare and stealing from American taxpayers, he was faced with a choice: Speak up for what he believed to be right, or remain silent. Undercover tells the story of Schilling's harrowing journey from ordinary citizen to federal informant. The book recounts how Schilling allied himself with the FBI and the Justice Department and--unable to confide in friends or family--journeyed into an undercover world in which he carried a wire and mapped out offices for secret government raids. Suspenseful and provocative, Undercover chronicles Schilling's nine-year ordeal that eventually led to the resignation of high-level executives and forced Columbia to return $1.7 billion dollars to the federal government. A compelling account of one man's decision to risk everything for the greater good, this book reveals the personal side of a thankless role that resulted, ultimately, in justice.

Great Book! May 27, 2008
It is not often that an everyday person gets to perform a heroic act, and even less often that person is properly rewarded for doing it. Both happen in Mr. Schilling's well-written book. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Gripping Story May 7, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an amazing story that is well written. Good moral character that slays the giant and comes out a winner at the end. I can't imagine the being in the dilemma of this whistleblower and having the courage to blow the whistle on two corporate giants. As a CPA Mr. Schilling's conduct and code of ethics, is what is what is expected of CPA's and this is a must read for all CPA's. I believe this would make a great movie, and I would expect it to be on film in a few years. Mr. Schilling is truly an American hero and its a shame our government and/or our President doesn't publically thank whistleblowers or honor them for saving us taxpayers billions of dollars.

very good book i give it a five star rating should be read by all seniors in high school.it tells about the stress a whistleblower goes through and also the rewards one can get for doing the right thing
The inside story about being a whistleblower April 9, 2008 This book is an entertaining, fast paced, eye-opening look into the process of being a whistleblower. While it should be interesting to all, it is a must read for anyone that has thought of filing a False Claims Act case, or anyone that has already filed a case. True insights into how the process actually works, and situations and problems that can arise when it doesn't are enlightening. Thankfully there are people out there like Mr. Schilling that risk it all to do the right thing and stop companies from stealing the hard earned tax dollars of the American people.
The right choice April 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wow!!!! put yourself in John Schillings shoes, would you be able to make the right choice? This is a book that every taxpayer should read. As health care costs rise, John's story is a bright spot in help keeping those costs inline in the future and every taxpayer should be thankfull. His honesty and strong moral values gave him an incredible journey that I don't think most of us could endure. The book keeps you interested in wanting to continue to the next chapter, (great flow) This book could easily become a movie that people would want to see. Well written with incredible details and accounts of all his events that took place, truly a exciting story!!!
