Product Description Freckles (1904) by Gene Stratton Porter is the uplifting story of a plucky waif without a name and without one hand, disabled since infancy. Raised in a Chicago orphanage, he survives abuse and harsh circumstances and grows up a brave, loyal, and hardworking young man with a true capacity for self-sacrifice. Freckles becomes a timber guard in the Limberlost swamp in Indiana and exhibits extraordinary courage and resourcefulness on the job. He also falls in love with the Swamp Angel, a young girl whose beauty and kindness bring out the best in others. A beloved turn-of-the-century Indiana classic for all ages.
Download Description The Boss showed him around the timber-line, and engaged him a place to board with the family of his head teamster, Duncan, whom he had brought from Scotland with him, and who lived in a small clearing he was working out between the swamp and the corduroy. When the gang was started for the south camp, Freckles was left to guard a fortune in the Limberlost. That he was under guard himself those first weeks he never knew.

a more simple time June 9, 2008 After all the violence and mayhem on TV and the movies, it was such a pleasure to read a book from a time that was simplier and more down to earth.
Never leave home without it August 26, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have a 1940s edition of the book and it's been my favourite for 9 years. Whenever I go move (and I move A LOT) or go back to school I always have it with me because it is my favourite book of all time. I had a panic attack because my mom had put it in a box and I couldn't find it. I insist that you read this book, and id you don't at least enjoy it a little ...
This book will be my favourite for all time (because they just don't write them like they used to)

Freckles is one of Gene Stratton Porter's best works! I am also pleased at the condition of the book and the speed with which it arrived!
Another Wonderful Vintage Romance March 13, 2007 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I read this at an impressionable age and fell in love with stalwart Freckles and the Limberlost Swamp and his Angel. Pretty sentimental by today's standards, this book champions saving the forests and wetlands. The descriptions are beautiful and evocative. A great romance.

I purchased this previously read book as a gift. It is CLEAN in language and story line. It is educational (flora and fauna, etc.) and about people with good moral values. When I finished reading the book I wanted more, so I've read more of Gene Stratton Porter's books and shared them with my friends.
