two ideas that went nowhere July 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I agree with the reviewers who have said this was not Janet's best. But where were her editors? There are two story lines in this book that both had potential. The Brenda story with the stalker could have been the entire book. But suddenly about half way through the book, it just died. Ranger disappeared. The job was ended. Brenda suddenly became a news reporter appearing every couple of chapters. (I tried to pull my pages apart, because I thought surely some had stuck together and I had jumped a couple of chapters forward). The bank robbery story could have also been the entire book. It could have held true suspense and danger, but instead it was disjointed and boring. The Zook story was unnecessary and the characters reactions were completely unrealistic.
I love this series, but the last two books have been huge disappointments. No more hardbacks for me, I will wait in the future for the paperback versions.
A fun and fast read July 26, 2008 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've enjoyed the Stephanie Plum series and this new installment was just as fun as the others. Once again I found myself laughing out loud thoughout the story and sad as I read the final sentence. Looking forward to #15!
Not up to Janet's usual standards July 26, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'm a long-time fan of Janet Evanovich and, as usual, looked forward to reading her newest book. I found the book to be sub-par, nowhere near as funny or suspenseful as previous Stephanie Plum books. Lula was well-written as usual(think wedding dress) but I missed Grandma and especially Ranger. He didn't come rushing to Stephanie's rescue as in the past. The Brenda story line was ridiculous although I liked the characterizations of Mooner and Zook. My suggestion would be to get this book from the library if you just want to keep up with the series, instead of spending actual money on it. Overall, Janet has produced such good books in this series that I do still look forward to the next book.
Fearless - well, not quite July 26, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
While Stephanie is always good for a laugh or two and grandma is a real hoot, somehow this book just missed the mark. It was just not up to Janet's usual standards. Don't know if it is because she is running low on good story lines, or what, but I sincerely hope that number fifteen is better than this. I'd hate to see "Fifteen Flops" as a headline.
Janet has outdone herself with July 25, 2008 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
this last Plum novel. Silly, humorous, easy reading, just a lot of fun. I've read all of her Plum novels and this one was the most fun. I like the way she's handling the involvement with Morelli. Keep the Plum novels coming Janet.
