Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
"Race Car Aerodynamics" is the first book to summarize the secrets of the rapidly developing field of high-speed vehicle design. Author Joseph Katz provides clear explanations for both the engineer who wants to improve his or her design skills and enthusiasts who simply want to understand how their favorite race cars go fast.

-How aerodynamics win races. Why downforce is more important than

streamlining and drag reduction

-Wind tunnel designs, methods and results-what you can and can't believe

-Special overview section reviews the fundamentals of aerodynamics

-Full definitions of terms, with equations and examples provided for

determining key aerodynamic parameters like Drag, Lift and Side-force

coefficients, fluid viscosity, or wind-tunnel corrections

-Designing wings and venturis-what works and what doesn't

-Numerous examples using specific race cars: passenger-based, prototypes,

and open-wheel designs Drawing upon his extensive research and experience in the field of aerodynamics, the author has produced a comprehensive data base that will become a standard in its field. Whether you are a designer, instructor, or enthusiast, "Race Car Aerodynamics" will give you the essential information on what makes race cars fast.

5 out of 5 stars Good compilation of formulas, theory and practical examples   August 29, 2008
An excellent review of race car aero. It is one of the few books that accurately discusses current trends. Answers a lot of "How does that work" type questions regarding undertrays, splitters, spoilers, wings and vortex generating devices. With the Milliken and Milliken book, Gillespie's vehicle dynamics manual and this book, a competition car engineer has all of the tools necessary for design and analysis.

5 out of 5 stars Very nice book!   November 6, 2007

Very nice book!
Many diagrams and pictures, very interesting for a reader..

4 out of 5 stars Excellent compilation of Basics on Aeordynamics   July 18, 2007
As a reader without a formal engineering background, I found this book to be a good primer in aerodynamics. Although challenging, the theory is accessible and the mathematics practical. I have found no other material that serves as well as an introduction to the theory and practice of race car aero concepts.

5 out of 5 stars From Basics to advanced aerodynamics concepts   January 15, 2007

This is a very well written and designed book on cars aerodynamics. It starts from the Bernoulli law, passing through the definition of drag, lift, coefficient of pressure,...(always recalling to the objective of the book: understanding cars aerodynamics), ending with lot of examples on real-world race cars. There's no need to start reading this book with an advanced knowledge in engineering, because in here you can find all the recalls or new knowledge that you need in the subsequent chapters: so I recommend it for all kind of knowledge that you have. Lot of graphs, formulas, and very well described examples. So: not only theory but lot of practical examples and observations. Very good book!

The book explains very well, all the details one would need to understand the aerodynamics of a race car.
buy it!
