| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description In the early days of NASCAR, down-home drivers changed their own tires, fashioned seat belts from old bed sheets, and used leather belts to lash shut the doors of family sedans. This colorful era roars to life in the pages of this evocative photo history spanning 18 seasons of race action at South Carolina's legendary Darlington International Raceway. As Darlington's track photographer during that time, Tom Kirkland used one of the period's few cameras to feature automatic film advance. His resulting mastery of the photo sequence hatched a collection of long-forgotten images that capture some the most heart-stopping finishes and bone-crunching crashes NASCAR has ever witnessed. Readers are also treated to rare shots of NASCAR heroes on the track, in pitlane, and atop the winner's podium. The season-by-season coverage of NASCAR at Darlington features brief introductions for each chapter and detailed captions for every photo. In addition, quotes from drivers, owners, and others are interspersed throughout. The book is capped off with a comprehensive appendix listing vital statistics for all NASCAR races held at Darlington during the period.

| Customer Reviews:
Excellent Book! September 30, 2003 It really gives an intimate look into the history of Darlington's early days, begining with the actual consruction of the track! Tons of vintage photos deplict just how different things were back then. What better guide to have than someone that was THERE through it all. Kirkland's photos and stories along with Thompson's writing makes this book a must for any NASCAR fan interested in a comprehensive history lesson on a legedary track.
