Book Description A racing journalist and historian covers Ford's glory years--the total domination of world motorsports from 1962 to 1970. In 1962, when he was 35, it was Lee Iacocca's dream for Ford to dominate world motorsports. From 1962 through 1970, Ford launched a massive assault on every major venue of motorsport in the world--with unparalleled success. From Formula 1 to Le Mans, NASCAR stock cars to the Indy 500, and from Trans-Am to NHRA drag racing--Ford eventually won championships in each venue.
Racing journalist and historian Alex Gabbard chronicles Ford's rise to world racing domination, taking us behind the scenes with the men responsible for designing, building, and driving the many racing machines that took the racing world by storm during this performance era. Hundreds of rare racing photos help readers relive the many victorious moments in what is considered to be Ford's most successful racing period, the era of "Total Performance."

Good, not great January 7, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book could be considered an alternative to Volume One of "The Dust and the Glory" for readers who aren't interested in flathead-era Ford racing. There is really interesting coverage of the Sixties Indy engine program. A few of the photos are the same as "The Dust and the Glory," and a couple of the paragraphs read like direct lifts from it. There are some factual errors with contextual, non-Ford information (e.g., implying that Mark Donohue raced in the Indy 500 in 1968), but the primary information about the Ford racing program seems sound.
Fords always WIN! April 8, 2001 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this book because I love anything to do with Fords made in the 60's, and especially the racing history. This book goes into depth on every aspect of racing of that era in great detail. If you are a serious Ford fan, or a serious race fan, then this book is for you.
