Product Description Vital Point Strikes is a guide to pressure point striking for the average martial artist. Sang H. Kim demystifies the lore of vital point striking and shows you realistic applications of vital point strikes for self-defense and combat sports. For those new to the concept of vital points, he begins by examining the Eastern theory of acupoints, meridians and ki (qi) and the Western scientific concepts of the nervous and circulatory systems, pain threshold and pain tolerance, and the relationship between pain and fear. This synthesis of accepted Eastern and Western theories helps the reader understand what makes vital point striking work and why it can be not only useful in fighting, but deadly. Based on this introduction, you ll learn about 202 vital points for use in fighting including the name, point number, location, involved nerves and blood vessels, applicable techniques, sample applications, and potential results for each point. The points are illustrated in detail on an anatomically correct human model, with English, Chinese, and Korean names as well as point numbers for easy reference. In addition to identifying the vital points, Sang H. Kim gives you detailed information about the type of techniques that work for vital point striking including a discussion of fighting zones and ranges, plexus strikes, stance and footwork, bodily weapons, striking directions and angles and dozens of applications for common empty hand, grappling, groundfighting, knife and gun attacks. Based on over thirty years experience in the martial arts and in-depth research, Sang H. Kim has created one of the most complete books available on the art and science of vital point striking.

A Pretty Decent Book With Some Very Good Information August 20, 2008 I must confess that I was more than a bit apprehensive about initially purchasing this book after seeing so many others on the same subject that were at the very least worse than not knowing anything at all about the subject in question.
However, after reading the first few pages, I realized that although this is by no means the definitive resource on the subject, and a lot of the information provided is done so in a "superficial manner" with no real depth involved, the author did do a pretty darn good job with the material presented in the book. Now there are a few things that I would have done differently, but those are more of a personal quirk and truly have no bearing whatsoever on the material presented in this book.
I really liked the principles and philosophy concerning vital points that the author conveys throughout this book, which, in my opinion, is one of the true tests of an individuals knowledge about a particular subject. I would like to share a couple of those thoughts with you in this review.
"By practicing and understanding vital point strikes, your striking power can be 3 to 5 times more effective than randomly striking an opponent."
"Once you are engaged in a fight, only one rule prevails: strike the most vulnerable targets in the shortest time to cause maximum damage to the opponent."
I really found the information in this book to be very well thought out and presented. However, I do feel that a couple of minor adjustments in the layout would have made this book even that much better.
The only real problem I had with this book, was with the "Applications" section at the end of the book. This section could have been presented so much better if it would have maintained the primary focus of the book and dealt exclusively with the subject of vital points, rather than showing defenses against a variety of attacks. Although in all fairness I do have to say that strikes to vital points where shown in each example, but not with the detail and explanations that I feel should have accompanied them.
This book does use a lot of medical and anatomical terminology that, for the most part, is also presented in easy to understand language for the lay person.

Nothing short of AWESOME!!! June 15, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have just about every book imaginable on Kyusho-Jitsu/Dim-Mak/Pressure Points. And as a black belt in Shin Mae Shorin Ryu, I incorporate pressure points into everything that I do. Let me just say that I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! It is the most thorough book I have ever seen on the subject. This knowledge is that of true martial arts masters. Sang H. Kim is a great author & martial artist, but he really out did himself with this work! He obviously worked hard on this book. He clearly shows & describes the points & he also shows many excellent applications. I don't often say this, but this book is worth much more than it is being sold for! These are the secrets that the ancient masters guarded so closely. You cannot put a price on this kind of knowledge!!!
