Product Description
This state-of-the-art book covers the basics of emerging areas in power electronics and a broad range of topics such as power switching devices, conversion methods, analysis and techniques, and applications. Its unique approach covers the characteristics of semiconductor devices first, and then discusses the applications of these devices for power conversions. Well-written and easy-to-follow, the book features numerous worked-out examples that demonstrate the applications of conversion techniques in design and analysis of converter circuits. Chapter topics include power semiconductor diodes and circuits, diode rectifiers, power transistors, DC-DC converters, pulse-width modulated inverters, thyristors, resonant pulse inverters, multilevel inverters, controlled rectifiers, AC voltage controllers, static switches, flexible ac transmission systems, power supplies. DC and AC drives, gate drive circuits, and protection of devices and circuits. For individuals in interested in the fields of electrical and electronic engineering.

Decent text, needs more editing, paperback terrible June 13, 2008 I purchased this book as a required text for a class I am taking. Overall, the material presented in the book is pretty good and clearly communicated. There are many examples to review and practice problems.
One complaint is that there are many errors in the example problems and equations. Some exponents are missing or equations written differently on different pages. I would expect these bugs to be worked out long before the 3rd edition. Other than that the book good.
The biggest problem I have is with the quality of the binding. I have only used the book for 3 weeks and the binding is already falling apart. Some pages have fallen out and many more are loose. I would definetly recommend getting the hardbound edition unless you never plan to actual use the book.
Power Electronics February 13, 2008 The books content is good so far however the book is a softcover. After 3 weeks of school the binding is starting to come apart. Seeing how the hardcover is no longer in print, do yourself a favor and buy the international edition. The north American softcover edition isn't worth the money I paid for it.
cheaper new book January 23, 2008 I found this book kere with lower prise and in new condition.. So what can i more expect?
I thought this book was lacking in alot of areas... October 17, 2007 Not only does the author expect you to follow along no problem while he throws out all these expressions, but he also makes ALOT of mistakes. There are alot, and I mean alot, of mistakes in the example problems and the problems at the end of the chapter. Very difficult book to follow. Not really all that good for design work if some of his expressions he derives are wrong from the get go.
terrible book October 10, 2007 This book makes power electronics needlessly complicated and is not even written well. Examples are useless because the equations used are poorly explained. Sometimes variables are used with no explanation of their meaning.
