Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Completely updated to include changes to the 2005 National Electrical Code, this newly revised edition examines dwelling unit electrical power and lighting wiring for electrical students and beginning apprentices. Coverage takes readers through the construction of a typical suburban house, from the installation of temporary construction power to the final trim and checkout of the lighting fixtures, switches, receptacles, and appliances. Construction of the dwelling is followed chronologically in a true-to-life fashion that presents a realistic environment for readers. Expansive coverage examines such topics as GFCI and AFCI protection, overcurrent, box file requirements, conductor ampacity, drilling limitations, conductor routing and installation, required circuits, box make-up, feeder and service loads, service, grounding, and much more.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Clearly organized, amazingly good diagrams   May 31, 2008
Bravo! For the past 2 years I've been learning how to design and build my own house. In the process I've consumed a few dozen technical books on everything from AutoCAD to Plumbing. Few are really everything I'd hoped for. Some are too sketchy to be truly useful if you're serious about attaining journeyman proficiency; others are self-indulgently anecdotal, badly written, confusing or even confused. This book is the truly brilliant exception. The organization is amazingly clear--you always know where the information you're getting fits into the big picture, and there are abundant (and abundantly clear) color diagrams, letter-boxed critical points, highlights and reviews. And the language and tone are exactly right--never condescending or jokey and always concise and on point. This book is a model for technical writing. Many thanks Mr. Sorge!

This is a great textbook for the beginning and intermediate level electricians. The text stays detailed yet organized as you follow steps in the process of wiring a typical house. It is based on the 2002 NEC so everything is updated and to code. The study questions, and chapter end summaries are key features that will aid in the learning process. I believe this book is a great bridge from classroom study to on-the-job training. I will use this book and would highly recommend it to others.
