Excellent Reference October 6, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a member of an Emergency Medical Service, it is important for us to have quick references, specially with a topic so critical as Hazardous Materials (HazMat). This guide provides a lot of useful information that tells you not only how to protect yourself, but also how to provide a very basic treatment to people affected by one of the 398 chemicals this guide details.
Complains: the visual presentation of the information is a little bit uncomfortable, but once you get used to it, you get to the data quickly.
The guide gives you tabulated information about the chemical, its common names, how to measure it, respiration protection exposed people should use, medical problems caused by over-exposure and basic treatment.
I highly recommend this guide to people that work or can find themselves into situations involving dangerous chemicals.
Get it right, Amazon! September 24, 2003 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you are buying this book because of the Editor's review:"Vital safety advice on 23 of OSHA'S hottest topics: confined space entry, electrical safety, emergency response, ergonomics, fire prevention, first aid and bloodborne pathogens, forklift safety, etc." Be warned that the editor's review is completely wrong. This book has only listings of hazard properties of various chemical compounds. It has nothing at all to do with fire prevention, first aid, forklift safety, etc. It would be helpful if the Editors would actually look at the book before posting a review. And, because it's a NIOSH book, it has little to do with OSHA.
