severely lacking May 24, 2006 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I am a professional mechanic starting my own shop and have been trying to find the best manuals out there. Unfortunately this manual is not it.
I bought this manual thinking it would replace the individual manuals by covering many models. This manual does cover more models but it has less information per model than the individual manuals. This manual lacks: wiring diagrams, transmission repair procedures, bolt torques for many items such as the transmission pan torque on automatics, etc.
When Chilton uses the term "professional" what they mean is that it is a filtered version that only has information on the most common jobs. This manual does cover timing belts, heater cores, engine repair, and brakes. But that is pretty much it.
In my experience the best manuals out there are the manufacturer specific ones but they are very expensive and usually only cover 1 year. Second is the Chilton manuals for an individual car (their "total car care" series). Stay away from the Haynes at all costs. And stay away from these (Chilton Perennial Edition).
