Product Description
The spirit of the legendary Katharine Hepburn burns brilliantly once again as Kate Mulgrew, the star of the off-Broadway show, performs Tea at Five. Joins us for a cup of tea, won't you? Katharine Hepburn beckons us into her Connecticut home for a cozy chat and an intimate look at the legend--and the woman behind the legend. Based on the critically acclaimed New York production, the independent, intelligent, feisty Hepburn comes alive once again when Kate Mulgrew, of Star Trek: Voyager fame, slips deftly into the voice and being of the famous actress. The tale opens in 1938 when the 31-year-old Hepburn is five years beyond her first Oscar-winning successes. In the middle of a career slump after a series of movie flops, she waits by the phone to hear whether she nailed the part of Scarlett in a film called Gone with the Wind. The story moves to 1983, when Parkinson's disease has left her voice shaking, her hand clutching a cane, but her eyes still shining with intelligence, wit, and the wisdom that informs a long life lived to the fullest. Tea at Five touches on Hepburn's turbulent childhood, her 15 year-old brother's suicide, and her 27-year affair with Spencer Tracy.

5 out of 5 stars Masterpiece   May 25, 2008
"Tea At Five" was wonderful. It took me a week to put it in after I got recieved it, but once I did I had to listen to it twice more that same day! It was just too good. Kate Mulgrew does a wonderful performance.
The piece is witty and very moving. I recommend listening to it!

5 out of 5 stars Kate shines as Hepburn   November 11, 2006

Kate Mulgrew is perfection as Hepburn. She is the quintessential performer. Her dead-on take as Hepburn (both at a younger age, and older age), is uncanny. She is just wonderful!! Excellent performance!

5 out of 5 stars I'll never see this on stage so this was a great way to enjoy this wonderful play!   February 10, 2006

Katherine Hepburn and Kate Mulgrew -- who could have asked for a better pairing? I love both actors and it is a joy to have access to this Audio version of the stage play.

I live so far from everywhere I'll never get to see this on stage, so I am thrilled to have a piece of what I hope will go down as a classic performance by Kate Mulgrew.

5 out of 5 stars Utterly enchanting   September 30, 2005

I was a little dubious about this audio-only version of Tea at Five, having seen the play live. However, it's very well adapted to audio. There's just enough narration to make up for the basic missing visuals, and a few other bits are just left out (i.e., no awkward pauses where something visual is happening).

Since it's adapted so well, this version retains the charm of the live show, which is considerable. Mulgrew is just enchanting in the role, and she's working with great material.
