5 out of 5 stars Very useful   April 8, 2008
I have yet to read the entire book, but this book gives you everything you need to know to start out. It has numerous pictures and is very easy to read. Definitely a good book for people starting out or are looking to start in this trade, very useful.

After checking this great book out of our local library multiple times over several months, I realized it was a textbook too full of practical and innovative approaches to what would normally be complex projects. Amazon had the best price so I can consult my own issue at any time without glancing at a calendar.
Originally, I merely wanted to rebuild the simple seats in my two old M38A1 Jeeps, now I've gone on to making covers for welders, convertible tops for golf carts and presently working on a moisture-proof cover for my large lathe and mill.
I may not be a pro (YET), but for a guy who never sewed before I have confidence and ability to sew great and useful things thanks mostly to this book.

The book is a little too vanilla. That's because it is so broadly based. Really good overall information, but just wasn't what I was looking for. If you need to get up to speed on the general details of the work, it's great.
From there you know which detailed book to search for.

5 out of 5 stars Automotive Upholstery Handbook by Don Taylor   January 14, 2007

I am a retired college teacher, have done some upholstery over the years and I am somewhere between a beginner and advanced beginner. In a world of nortoriously poorly written trades manuals, Taylor's book stands out as a work of art. Written in a crisp clear style, the reader will find one or more aces to keep on every page. There should be more than five stars for this book. The author should produce more books; he definately has an unusual talent with the written word.

4 out of 5 stars A good place to start - answers lots of questions   January 11, 2007

This is a great book to get to see if trim work is something you feel you can tackle on your own. It explained many things, though I felt it could use some more diagrams to follow along with the well written 'how-to' instructions. The supply vendor list could use an update with email and/or web site addresses.
