1 out of 5 stars Calorie Fat and Carbohydrates   July 1, 2008

This book is very difficult to use. There are so many sections that it's hard to find any particular food item unless you're looking for a brand name - something like a fast food. Otherwise, the sections don't seem to be in any particular order, alphabetical or otherwise. I want a food reference book where I can look up items and get a calorie/carb value based on measurement (i.e. cup, tsp. oz.) Brand names are convenient if you eat out all the time, but regular no-name at-home food items need to be easily referenced as well!

5 out of 5 stars The Best Little Nutrition Information Book Ever!!!   June 24, 2008
This little book is chocked full of so much vauluable information and every year they add more resturants and foods. You can take it every where. Easy to just keep in your purse. It's just a must have especially if you have medical conditions such as Diabetes and you need to know what your consuming...Thank You Calorie King!!!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent quick reference guide   June 19, 2008
I purchased this item in an effort to curb the amount of fast food I consume during my lunch breaks. It's great because it's small enough to fit in my purse, so I just throw it in there and if I have a moment of weakness and find myself sitting in a drive through, at the very least I can see what NOT to order. It is pretty eye opening to see just how much fast food is bad for you and as a result I've really cut back on my intake. If I have it now, it's maybe once a week compared to several times a week before. It has just about every fast food and chain restaurant you can imagine. Of course, not every item is listed, but you can get a general idea of what a small fry order is going to cost you. The majority of the book focuses on food you can purchase at the grocery store. I found it very well organized and informative as well, but I don't use that section as often. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase and showed it to everyone in my office who were impressed as well.

4 out of 5 stars pity it is not in metric to help non-American diabetics   June 19, 2008
I originally bought the 2003 edition of this guide when I started a low carbohydrate diet. It is very thorough but the layout could be made easier. It is especially useful if you live in the USA and eat out a lot. We particularly found the ethnic food data useful.
Just over a month ago my son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes so we bought the 2008 edition.
One major criticism is (an this could be so easily rectified in the next edition)that all foods are listed using Imperial measurements. This is fine if you live in the USA but hopeless for everywhere else in the world. The strange thing is carbs are measured in grams but the weights are in ounces!? In the next re-print, metric weights should also be listed and then we would have a truly 5 star book.

3 out of 5 stars This book is comprehensive and basically OK   June 18, 2008
This book is ok - the reason I say this is that I really do believe they could have come up with better rhyme and reason when putting the list together. There is no understanding to why food is listed the way it is and that makes for continually flipping, and flipping and flipping - oops I missed it - flip back, flip forward until you find what you are looking for. Why could they not just do it alphabetically arranged with restaurants at the back? I would suggest going to BN or Borders to look at different books first before deciding which one is easy to use. There is definitely a better way than this!
