3 out of 5 stars A reasonable guide to V6 engines.   April 21, 2006
This book has been around for several years. Its a reasonable book by "S-A Design" so you know its a good book.Covers Buick,Ford and Chev V6's.Not a comprehensive-step by step rebuilding but its okay for its age.

If you are thinking of restoring an old V6 engined car this book might be a good place to start. If an indepth book is what you are after consider a workshop manual type book for the cars the engine was orginally fitted in.

I hope this book will be updated.

This is an old book as stated below, but I originally bought it in the 1980's for help on my Buick even-fire 3.2 V-6. It proved very helpful there, and the section on Ford's 60 degree V-6 is the largest in the book. The Chevy section is very sparse, so look elsewhere if you need help on one of those engines. GM used to put out a Power Manual on Chevys that was available at any dealership's part's department that had a great deal of info on the Chevy V-6's. You might check and see if they still carry this if you need more information on the Chevy V-6's. It should prove very up to date if they do.

4 out of 5 stars Of course it's out of date, but seems useful!   February 7, 2002

Yeah, of course it's out of date. It's not like it was published this year (2002). For anyone who knows about books, the will also know that once a book is published it is thereafter "out of date".

A revision would be nice, but I found the book extremely helpful. I got everything out of it that I wanted. Of course, I wasn't looking for aftermarket parts or I would have found a catalog (whether it be online or not). It told me a lot about the engines I wanted to know about (especially the chevy 2.8!).

For those who lack reading skills, I can see how it would be a troublesome book though. Overall, this book was good. Just make sure to read it knowing what time the book was made (I do believe the 1980s). So, if you have a car from the 80s with a v6, I would recommend this book.

This book is very out dated!! It is a history of the V6 engine up to the early 80's. Look for a more up to date book.

1 out of 5 stars VERY OUT OF DATE   November 14, 2001

This book is VERY out of date (1986). The text states "Virtually no aftermarket bolt-on performance pieces currently exist for this new engine..." This is simply not true today. There are numerous bolt-on products available through mail order, local area shops and dozens of web sites devoted entirely to this particular engine and its applications.

Also, the section on the Chevy 60o 2.8L (the reason I bought the book) is only 17 pages!

My recommendation would be to save the money you would spend on this book and apply it to the performance parts that really are out there. Surfing the web produced LOTS of links and more information than this book.
