Product Description

Nothing will break this mother-daughter bond. Not even the truth.

Deborah Monroe and her daughter, Grace, are driving home from a party when their car hits a man running in the dark. Grace was at the wheel, but Deborah sends her home before the police arrive, determined to shoulder the blame for the accident. Her decision then turns into a deception that takes on a life of its own and threatens the special bond between mother and daughter.

The Secret Between Us is an unforgettable story about making bad choices for the right reasons and the terrible consequences of a lie gone wrong. Once again, Barbara Delinksy has delivered a riveting study of family and a superbly crafted novel, perfectly targeted to reading groups and fans of provocative fiction.

3 out of 5 stars Humdrum ho hum   July 24, 2008
I listened to this book on CD and there were times when I wanted to give up on it entirely. The leading character was a doormat for everyone and her Father, Michael, was the absolute worst. I found this book very frustrating and at times I just wanted to scream. But I kept thinking this is Barbara Delinsky surely it's going to get better. Wrong! You may read it and love it but based on some of the other reviews I don't think I'm alone with my disappointment.

1 out of 5 stars predictable and unbelievable   May 29, 2008

This was my first time reading Barbara Delinsky and I was very disappointed. I guessed the ending within the first 50 pages and found her characters weak and unbelievable. Way too sappy for my tastes.

This is the first book I have read by Barbara Delinsky and I must say that I am very impressed. This is a great book that has kept my interest. I have already ordered another book by her and can't wait to start reading it. I would highly recommend this author.

3 out of 5 stars Not Bad, but Not Great   May 20, 2008

THE SECRET BETWEEN US deals with the interactions of family. How far a mother will go to protect her child, how a child reacts to knowing they've done something that can never be taken back. It's not a bad story, but it wasn't as fully evolved as I would have liked it to be.

The main problem, for me, was the ending, which I saw as a total cop-out. In the end, the resolutions came too easily, and in ways that made everyone turn out to be a good guy. Life rarely works this way in real life.

This isn't Barbara Delinsky's best story, but it's still good for reading about a family who will do anything to keep itself whole.

This story has been told in different forms, and this book delivers the story no better than others. It seemed repetitive in parts, and I didn't really sympathize with the characters - it got to such a point, I wanted the story to end quickly. And when I did reach the final chapters, found the ending unsatisfactory and tied up all "too neatly".....A bit like Jodi Piccoult novels - pages and pages of story, and then rushes the ending and you are left wondering how the author could finish up the story so unsatisfactorily.
