"The $ecret"...People the secret is Drive and Intention, that is ubiquitous! August 8, 2008 First and foremost, I am a spiritual individual, but this book, while ever so slightly adheres to my spirit on some aspects, has an impetus of avarice that I must repudiate. I have just concluded my reading endeavor of this book and have to say that at times much of it was quite odious to me. The fervent myopia of the ascetic society cannot see beyond the avariciousness and exploitation of this ignorance. For the spiritual soul this book may have some resonance, but unfortunately I think that it is destitute of any spiritual rapport due to its materialistic elicitation. It is as if Rhonda Byrne and her colleagues cannot find another avenue applicable to the manifestation of the Secret besides the gold in their pockets. There lies a gossamer of greed upon this title and we find that there is more erring than enlightenment. We find that what this book is trying to convey is far from a secret, it is actually quite trite and common amongst people of successful lives-it is simply Intention and Drive. Be devoid of either of the two and you will find that you will end up, nowhere. Be affluent of each and you will indeed create your future of success, but you will not be able to deviate yourself from being shot and killed by the proletariat on crack.
I will profess that I believe that one day that science and spirituality will have a convergence. Human potential is severely underestimated and as we delve into the chemicals of the mind and as biotechnology proliferates we will be have been amiss to the understandings of what we are capable of. I find though that if we were to find that it is not inane to think, or know, that we have subtle control of our personal frequency that we are indeed not the architects of communal reality as individuals. We cannot affect the communal reality with our own intentions, whims and penchants.
I do not completely abhor the book, but there exists a level of disdain for its materialistic energy. Materialism is the fundamental principle of this book, and for me that is a turn-off. There are indeed things that were resonant with me and that I will apply to my base program, but that was severely overshadowed by the monolithic edifice of MATERIALISM that was erected by Byrne and her colleagues.
Lastly, I do believe there are ways we can alter the outcome of our lives by Intention and Drive. Those two go a long way in the success of any endeavor.
Oh...I almost forgot...if you are a woman that is 145lbs, Rhonda Byrne thinks that is fat, and along with that 115lbs is more congruous!
Do not buy In when it is already free! August 4, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The main thing is that a group of people devised a well packaged scheme with a well known "secret" to make people believe they will get rich to get rich, themselves. The question is whether one should be a party to this kind of activity, and every buyer is. The claims at their site are utterly outrageous - Plato and Beethoven got where they were after finding the "Secret" - and should be really shut down by an outpouring of qualifiers. They should not be rewarded but rather shamed.
There's only one secret to this book . . . August 3, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I saw this book last night and picked it up. I had seen it in stores on the best seller racks, and it had a catchy cover. At first I thought it was some kind of story until I opened it up. After I read the first page I realized it wasn't, but being bored I read on. The first chapter is quite interesting. But as I kept reading the book, I honestly felt like I was reading the same page over and over and over again. This has to be the most redundant book I have ever read. The only thing I have gotten from this book, is to sell the idea that hard work and dedication never got anyone anywhere. Telling people that their bad spending and eating habbits aren't cause for them being broke or overweight. I simply finished the book because it was quite funny. This book takes the idea of staying positive with everything in your life, having hope and a motivation to reach your goals, and makes a total mockery of great scientist and inventors. Everything great that has been done was created by trial and error, not because some mysterious "universal mind" or genie wanted them to have it. If you purchased this book, the only real secret is that you have wasted twenty-five dollars.
Not especially new information but certainly interesting... August 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
While this information wasn't especially new, it was a great reminder. I run decluttering and time management workshops for a living for Inspired Honey (inspiredhoney.com) and so I like to have a break once in a while give my mind a tune-up (like my car). While this information is certainly not new. See the book You Can Heal Your Life written decades before or even lots of ideas from proverbs in The Bible), it is still interesting information. If it gets people analysing their thoughts more and being more in control of their choices - I'm all for it!
very good August 3, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Secret is intriguing and gives anyone with need of money, hope or health, a lot of hope. It is hard to believe, however, that one can get whatever one wants just by thinking about it or asking for it.
