Needs Improvement October 4, 2008 I really doubt that I'll read another book from this series. I appreciate that they (the authors) espire to prolong the story but I was ready for some type of conclusion several books ago. The latest book was a choir to finish. Note to publisher, move on!

Another great book under the Horus Heresy umbrella. I am getting more than a little sick of people whining about certain books in this series being useless "side-plots". What complete nonsense! THEY are not the ones telling the story, BL are and so far they are doing a very good job. Who are YOU to tell anyone else how to tell their own stories?
I for one am very interested in learning about the background to the main relevant legions and chapters. I thought Descent of Angels was a fantastic read and has made me want to focus on the Dark Angels more in gaming both models and on PC. Battle for The Abyss takes a completely different approach and focuses on battlefleet Gothic style spaceship conflicts which makes it another great twist in the saga. I for one cannot wait for the next book, then the next and HOPE that they all take a different slant or approach the saga from a different viewpoint in each case.
After all, isn't that the enitire point of having multiple authors on a saga? Nay-sayers and impatient types go away and shut up please........
Disappointing September 30, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
In a word... disappointing. The HH series started out great. Horus Rising, False Gods, and Galaxy in Flames were all wonderful narratives that brought the reader along the path that will eventually (we hope) lead up to the ultimate battle between Horus and the Emperor to decide the fate of the Galaxy. Sadly, the books after those first three seem to be less and less about the Heresy and more like side stories soley to keep the series alive and the dollars flowing into Black Library's bank account. I am a loyal reader who has bought every book in the series, naively believing that it would advance the plot, and profoundly disappointed when it didn't.
Like someone else mentioned earlier, I will be reading reviews before purchasing Horus Heresy books from now on. Until Black Library gets back on track, Battle for the Abyss will be my last purchase in this series.
Battle for excitement September 14, 2008 This book was just ok. Not one of the strongest books in the series.
Abyss September 11, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Definitely a good read, a lot of action with good subplots. While the story was a good one, it seems that these books completely avoid the main events of the heresy. I would think a book about the battle between the Word Bearers and the Ultramarines along with the Primarchs would better support the storyline of the heresy. These side stories are good, but more attention should be paid to the main events.
