We use thicker canister walls for extra strength and durability which reduces the risk of damage from loose rocks and debris. The heavy-duty construction will withstand higher oil pressures found only in racing environments without bursting. The drilled hole on the nut is for a safety wire attachment. Been using K&N filters in our tow vehicle for years. Now we use them in all our vehicles. Thick outer shell doesn't crush when squeezed by an oil wrench. No burrs around the threads like cheaper products.

The most effective oil filter for the family car is made by K&N in my book. You will like the hex head top for easy on and off.

This is by far one of the best oil filters on the market. The studies I've read about synthetic media filter shows that they filter exceptionally well. You can actually feel the quality of this filter when you handle it. It is sturdy and hefty. The weight of the filter gives about the amount of filter material available. And one bonus that I love is the nut, which makes removes a snap.
