Amazon.com Product Description Featuring unique retro styling and a heavy-duty steel construction, the Schwinn Roadster is a great choice for your youngster's first trike. It has a low center of gravity thanks to a wider profile back, which offers added stability to prevent tipping. The swoopy steel frame has an easy step-through design so your tyke will be comfortable and ready to ride. The Roadster has a bucket seat with an opening on the back for easy carrying, and the seat can be adjusted underneath with twist knob (no tools needed) to five different positions. The handlebars have textured grips and raised ends that help keep the hands from slipping off, and the handlebars can be adjusted using a wrench. The pedals offer colored rubber accents that also provide extra gripping so shoes don't slide off. It also features air-filled tires--12 inches in front, 8 inches in the back--which provide a smoother ride over bumpy surfaces. For added style, this trike comes with a real wooden deck in back with a burned-in Schwinn logo, shiny silver fenders on the front and back tires, a bell on the handlebars (which can be removed), and tassels for added flair coming off the ends of the handlebars (also removable). About Schwinn Founded in 1895, Schwinn is an American icon that has been synonymous with quality and innovation. They have built some of the best-known and best loved bikes of numerous generations--Aerocycle, Paramount, Phantom, Varsity, Sting-Ray, Krate and Homegrown. Beautiful Trike March 11, 2010 S. Mathew The Shwinn Roadster looks amazing, it is great quality for the price. It is really unbelievable for the amount of money it cost. Everyone that see it says it is so cool looking. My daughter is 22 months old, she has a little trouble reaching the pedals, we purchased the pedal blocks, which helps. This will be a trike that she can use for a long time and should hold up well. The only concern we have is the tubes, which are apparently always on back order, we will keep our fingers crossed that they don't pop.
high quality, easy assembly, long lasting toy March 11, 2010 Angela V. (Wisconsin) This bike is a superb buy! Great look, easy to move the seat as their legs grow, and great study material! I love the look and this bike will defiantly hold up! Only con: watch if children like to grab wheels, with the top area of the wheel being made of metal, it can scratch their hands!
sweet ride March 3, 2010 Val (Seattle, WA) We've had this for just over 24 hours, and my almost 2.5 year old girl loves it. My husband's comment was 'wow that is a serious trike!'
Pros- normal bike tires (good suspension and traction, plus easy to patch/repair/replace), metal frame (long lasting), adjustable seat position (box claims 26" to 38"), actual seat instead of a saddle (harder to to fall off of for younger kids), retro style, cool bell
Cons- heavy/big (needs more room to store, more effort to lift), not tip proof (My daughter tipped it once going down our driveway, once turning on our street. That said it took a a fair amount to tip and she was fine once she learns how to safely turn it will be fine, doubt that any trike is truely tip-proof)
Over all I am very happy with this trike. My daughter loves it. Watch out as it is easy to pedal backwards and if you are walking behind them you could get hit by the backdeck in the ankles.
Also be advised that you will need an adjustable wrench, phillips head screwdriver and a bike pump w/ pressure gauge to assemble. Instruction were a little confusing especially with my daughter wanting to help, but took less than 10 minutes.
Don't forget to buy a helmet!
Great Value! February 26, 2010 S. Bell (The Woodlands, TX United States) With only a few parts, this trike was easy as could be to asemble. Our grandson loves it, although he is so small we needed to get some pedal blocks.
Roadster was a hit! February 24, 2010 Betty J. Stenger (DECATUR, IL, US) My twin granddaughters loved their new trikes. Loved the bell naturally and thought they were pretty cool!! Would buy again. Made extremely good. Should hold up for years to come.
