Waste of money and time. Burns out within a matter of months September 20, 2008 Nothing more aggravating then having to replace these bulbs twice in one year. The first time, is ok , maybe I just got a bad set, the second time one out of a set of these silverstar bulbs burned out, I got the cool blues instead. Hopefully I'll get longer lasting results with the cooler burning bulbs.
These bulbs have very short lives August 29, 2008 ALL the DOT-legal high output bulbs achieve higher output by overdriving the filiments, which reduces bulb life. They have to do this because the DOT puts limits on wattage. The only exception are HID and HIR bulbs, which use new technology to get more light out of less watts.
According to Sylvania: "Since our SilverStar(r) ULTRA headlights are up to 50% brighter than standard halogen, they will have a shorter life span when compared to our other products. Part number 9005SU will last for approximately 125 hours of "on time", 200 hours for part 9006SU."
For comparison, standard Halogens are rated at 1000/350 hours low/high. Use the S
If you want good lights on a 9006/9005 car, get some Toshiba 911 and 912 HIR bulbs. They'll cost you about $15 more than the Silverstars Ultras, put out more light... and last 5 times as long!
Sylvania Silverstar Ultra August 25, 2008 Compared to the regular SilverStar, the Silverstar ULTRA headlights were supposed to "last up to 30% longer". I have used the Silverstar in the past and decided to give the Ultra a try. They only lasted 6 months. I installed them in Dec. and they burned out in June, the left and right bulbs burning out within 2 weeks of each other. Their brightness and performance is great, but they just simply don't last as long as I think they should. Come on, at least last one year.
Definitely Brighter, but still holding out on reliability August 20, 2008 Just installed these 9006 Silverstar Ultras on my 2003 Camry. Definitely brighter and cheaper than PIAA. I live on a dark street and now the wife can really see ahead of her. I've had silverstars in the past and have had problems with reliability past about 12 months. We'll see how these more expensive ultras are. I'll post an update when they give out... maybe a month from now, maybe three years. If you buy these, buy a spare set if you can.
Headlights August 9, 2008 These headlights are great, and much brighter then the normal ones. You also do see farther then the normal lights.
