Easy August 27, 2008 I bought this product for the engine in my boat. The space in the engine room is very limited and most people would have a hard time reaching the oil filter let alone the oil drain plug. On a boat, you normally have to suck the oil out through a special dip stick on marine engines. The only way to get to the oil drain plug was to remove the engine from the boat. This product allows you to drain the oil from the bottom of the pan. Since I didn't pull out my engine, I have only installed the filter relocation adapter for the moment. If you usually change your own oil, you will have no problem installing this product. It was much simpler to install than I expected. The price is very reasonable when compared to similar products on the market without sacrificing quality.
For what it costs, it's a great unit December 5, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this more for the remote oil filter than the pump - the pump's OK, but personally, I'd rather drain my oil than pump it out.
The unit is very well made, comes with every imaginable fitting, and has pretty decent instructions - not that it's rocket science, but it helps to have some pointers.
Best kit ever!!! A+ November 27, 2007 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is the greatest kit. I can now change my oil anywhere! I routed the hose to pump the oil right onto the ground. I park in front of walmart, EPA building, or police station; flip one switch to make a puddle and flip the other switch to fill the engine up with new oil. You don't even have to get out of your car!
Thanks Spectre!
This is to balance out the negative reviews May 18, 2007 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
The negative reviews on this are just plain stupid. They all say things like siphon pumps suck (even though its not a siphon pump), why would anyone want the added cost of used oil disposal (maybe not free for garages but free everywhere I've been for consumer drop offs), why change your own oil when you can pay someone else to do it.
The one negative review that is not completely stupid talks about the potential of cracked hoses and clamps and other things that could fail or you could potentially F up. But I see hoses and clamps all over the place on my 97 Sentra. A couple of clamps rusted off and I had to replace, but no hose failures (I know I should change them, 10 years and they're probably due for failure). My only conclusion is that hoses and clamps wouldn't be used if they weren't reliable. Plus if I could change me filter without getting underneath I wouldn't consider this product. Another review on the concept and not the product. I would even settle for a first or second hand experience with a similar product.
So I'm giving my review based on the concept. I know that it's only a little bit cheaper, but changing my own oil is a heck of a lot more convenient. When I'm off work (weekends and weekday evenings) everyone else in the world is off too. Everyone else in the world also needs to change their oil. That means the oil change places are packed when I'm able to go. Forget the pump, if I could change the filter quickly it would take 10 minutes to change my oil, and I would drop off the oil on my why to work or wherever. Plus I like the pretty pictures and the spotless engine the guy in them is working on. 5 star concept.
I've never used this product or anything like it. This review is totally bogus and inappropriate. However, the negative reviews are even more so. I hope this review and every other review that addresses the concepts and not the product get deleted.
I'll probably end up getting this and leaving a real review.
Great bang for the buck March 8, 2007 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
Excellent little assortment of parts here. It's not for everyone, but for those who can take advantage of it, it's a nice ensemble. All the hardware is of decent quality and appears durable. Many of the parts would be hard to get for half the price. I bought it at a discount price and really had very little trouble seeing high value in it. Even at the regular price, you would be hard pressed to duplicate it for double.
