Great Product for the Price October 2, 2008 My check engine light had been on for a number of moths. When I first plugged the scanner into my car it had 7 codes listed. I reset the check engine light and drove the car for about 10 miles and it came back on. This time the scanner indicated a single code. The explanation of the code wasn't very intuitive so I googled the code for my car and found someone who indicated that 90% of the time this code was one particular sensor. I replaced the sensor ($85 and 10 minutes of time) and the check engine light hasn't appeard again. If I had taken this to my local repair shop I'm sure it would have been $300. The scanner paid for itself in one use.
Works as advertized September 28, 2008 I bought this to show me what code number my check engine light was displaying. Since I am a 2 hour drive from my dealer, this reader saved me the drive to him with a problem I could discuss over the phone. Since it was a minor problem I was able to turn the check engine light off without the worry of damaging my engine. I can wait for my scheduled maintenance call to have the part replaced.
Well worth the money! September 27, 2008 Dreaded check engine light lit up on my 97 Toyota Rav4 one day. Now I do my own vehicle repair, but having no OBD II diagnostic tester (my previous vehicle was an old 82 Pontiac Phoenix - OBD I which can be diagnosed with a paperclip) I brought the Rav in to a local mechanic who checked a few things, cleared the code, called it good and charged me $75. Would have better spent the money on this little miracle device as the check engine light was back on in a few days. Peeved, I ordered this tester not expecting much, but within minutes of removing it from the box I had the trouble code (P0401 - insufficient EGR flow). On the internet found instructions for properly testing the EGR system, identified the bad part, the vacuum switching valve, replaced the part, reset the trouble code and it was really fixed this time. It was that easy. This is just a basic unit and just reads trouble codes and can reset trouble codes, but for the money you can't go wrong. I would get it even if you don't do your own vehicle repair. At least when you bring it in to the mechanic for check engine light problems you'll know in advance what they should be looking at.
PocketScan September 24, 2008 This little handy device is great. It does everything it claims to do. When you consider that a repair shop will probably charge you upwards of $30 just to read your vehicle's data, having one of these will just about pay for itself the first time you use it. AAA++++
Money saver September 22, 2008 Great product. I have used this reader twice on my wife's Volvo to identify two minor items, both of which made the check engine light come on. Friend also used it on his son's Mazda to corectly fix a false problem. This tool is so simple to use, and has more then tripled payed for itself. Highly recomended.
