Great digital tire gauge May 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this product from walmart for around $10. So far it is a great tire gauge. It forms a good seal very easily and doesn't leak air. The screen is easy to read because of the backlight. As a tire gauge it is a great product. It reads pressure very fast as well.
Other notes: The tire gauge does not give an exact reading of the thread depth, only shows "good", "low" and "replace". I think that those readings are very vague and may not give a good indicator of thread depth. I would definitely recommend a dedicated tire thread depth gauge. The protrusion of the tire gauge is useful for bleeding air out of an overinflated tire though.
The packaging says that the pressure checker is powered by a non-replaceable lithium battery that gives around 3000 readings and the backlight is powered by 2 replaceable LR44 batteries. Should be plenty of measurements for most people and it would probably pay for itself with fuel savings.
C-H AU1102 Digital Tire Pressure Gauge May 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I decided to buy this after reviewing about 10 other gauges. I've had it about a week and find it exceptionally easy to use, no leaks at the valve, and easy to read. The tire tread depth gauge works great to let out air if you need to. This is very well constructed and feels great in my hand. It does read in the instructions that the gauge has a 3000 use max life due to its non-replaceable lithium battery, which is a negative if you have a lot of cars and check them all monthly. The lighted display does have replaceable batteries though. For me this gauge should last about 7.8 years considering I have 2 cars, check them once a month (@4 reads per tire). Pretty good return for a $25 unit. This gets my recommendation as a top tool.

Bought two to replace the Accutire digital tire gauges I've been using for the past five years. Making a proper seal with the tire stem had gotten progressively more difficult because the Accutire's rubberized tip tends to slip forward. The CH gauge is superb, easy to use and does not have that design problem. It's also easy to find because of all the chrome on its casing :). Worth the investment given gas prices these days...
Accurate and no leaking. August 24, 2005 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I've always used mechanical pressure guages and had to struggle to get a good reading without letting a significant amount of air out of the tire. This gauge seals so well I had to check the gauge just to confirm that I got it on the stem. No leaks, no hissing, and a solid readout within 0.5 lbs pressure. A great tool and an even better gift.
A great consumer tire gauge! August 5, 2005 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
Received the product after a two week waiting period. Decided on this based on the initial review posted here. I've used quite a number of tire gauges and I've always patronized the so-called OEM accesories. In this case the tire gauge that respective automobiles were selling at their online store.
A little back story...
For the cars that I owned...I've patronized a M-Benz auto on tire gauge that doesn't require battery change. It is self-calibrating and very light. However, the problem is that it doesn't seal with the valve of the tire properly. I also patronized a similar Audi electronic gauge for the A4 I purchased, but it exhibited a similar problem with the valve misalignment. Furthermore, the battery died on me almost immediately and despite replacing the battery it didn't turn on anymore. Refund.
For the longest time I settled on the Audi Professional Tire Gauge. I loved it. It had a steel case, rubber cover and flexible hose. It was a mechanical gauge that didn't need calibration. The downside, it was only good until 60psi. Yes, there are no normal vehicles that need to go past that range but if you also want to use it for trucks and bicycles...it will not only work, you're braking it. If you go past 60psi, your expanding the internal spring making it very inaccurate for using it anymore.
So my search for an excellent tire gauge led me to this product. I was considering the Accutire brand, but was discouraged due from the reviews.
The review...
Finally the product arrives and I immediately open the packaging. Lo and behold I find that the protective plastic seal (the kind that once you tear open, you cannot replace it back) was in fact OPEN already. Someone previously opened/purchased the product and cut it nicely enough to be able to pull out the tire gauge and use it. But why was it given to me? I didn't request for a refurbished product. I was buying a brand new tire gauge. So this immediately turned me off.
I pulled it out to check the condition of the product. There are some marks and dried glue around the rubber grip. Either this was manufacturing fault or what have you, I was not about to accept this kind of quality. Strike two.
Strike three...I swear the product said backlit led light. How come there was no light on mine? I hide in the closet and turn the product on. It turns on, but no light. I re-read the box and there it was...backlit led. My last resort was to tap on the product. Woah! There goes the led light finally on. This product has got to go back.
BUT...the TEST. Excellent tire gauge. I had no problem testing out the gauge and pressing it agains the valve. All four tires gave me reading the first try. No leaking air unlike the other products I tried. I did experience a leak when I tested the spare tire on the trunk. I have to point out the angle was not favorable unlike the four tires planted squarely on the ground.
The best part is that it's good til 99psi. It's electronic in nature so this will give a good reading. The bad side is that it will only tell your tire pressure within +-.5psi. You cannot see if you are off 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4psi. If you need accuracy that's the downside. Otherwise being within +-0.4psi is not THAT bad for average users who won't even bother to check their tire pressure religiously.
The construction is very tight and solid. I love the feel. It is a bit heavy compared to other electronic gauges, but it feels very right on the hand.
You depress the gauge on the valve. After a good seal, you take it out and check what the display reads. Simple.
What could have been better is that I should be able to hear an audible confirmation once the pressure has been read. There isn't any here unlike the OEM accessories I had. That would have made this a perfect product. Unless there should be an audible sound and my product is a fourth strike. If it does, I will update my review when I receive a replacement.
Other than the above experience, if they only shipped a brand new perfectly working product, it would have garnered more than 5 stars from me. Although I wanted to give it 3 stars at the moment, it was the best I used so it's definitely above the average gauges I've seen and used.
As a bonus there is a tread depth indicator built in the gauge. It's a simple protruding plastic strip that shows a good estimate of wear for consumer tire. Low profile tires don't really have that much tread depth to begin with so unless you know the spec of your tire you might think your wearing out the rubber too fast. Although if your concerned about hydroplaning then this is a good indicator to start with.
UPDATE:
The replacement tire gauge arrives a week later. Product on hand is brand new and completely sealed. Everything works perfect. Backlit light is bright. The defective product still has erratic backlit light so that puts it to rest that it's really defective. This time the included pouch is torn, so I do a simple swap before returning the other one.
It would be nice to have this product presented in a hard case so I can just hide it anywhere in the vehicle and not worry about damaging it. However, I would like to think all the money spent is on the investment of the product than the cost to present it.
You won't make a mistake buying this product. Price and feature-wise you can't complain.
