No more Animal Poo in our Flower Bed September 2, 2008 We've been having a neighbors outdoor cat we think poo'ing in our flower beds for a while, and could not stop them. Since we put this in, we have not had any more poo. Works great, and it's now been over a week. We were getting new poo every day, so this is a welcome relief. I'm usually scepical about things like this, so I was unsure when I ordered, but be sure that this will work for you. Just make sure the keep the battery fresh. There is a 9v DC in port, so you could also run a constant power line to this, and not have to worry about the battery. I am looking into doing this instead of buying lots of batteries.
It really works!! August 31, 2008 I have a second story deck that we had just remodeled and purchased new furniture for. Some feral cats in our area decided they like the custom made cushions on the furnite. After trying several methods to deter them, I ordered the CatStop. There has not been a cat on my furniture since. I placed the device under the stairs and for the first few days, the cats were scared away when they tried to climb the steps. Since then, they have not been around. Thanks for a great device!
Piece of junk even when it "works" August 19, 2008 I accept that this device is going to use batteries as others have noted. So I considered that part of the cost when operating it. However, I continually watched cats walk by it less than twenty feet away and it never did light up. When it would light up I could tell it was making noise if I was close enough to it. Unfortunately, even when it was doing its thing, the cats didn't seem to mind, and went right on pooping in my kids yard. Finally, when I went to install an external power supply rated at 9V dc with appropriately polarized connector, it stopped working entirely. The unit powers on, sounds off for a few seconds, then powers down with three consecutive blinks of its light as if it were some sort of error code.
I sure hope Amazon takes this overpriced piece of junk back! I think I'll give plain old ground pepper a shot.
Fabulous and WORKS! August 16, 2008 I am SO grateful for this product -- it's kept my cat inside the fenced back yard-- hooray! She is predominantly an indoor cat, but likes to go explore in the yard each morning and late afternoon (only when we're home). The yard is enclosed with a 6-foot high chain link fence and while she can climb it -- she doesn't. My cat had developed a very bad habit of slipping through the double drive-thru gates and exploring the front yard -- where the road is, where other cats live across the street, where dogs live down the road. I was at a loss to keep her in the yard -- other than never allowing her out again -- when I found this listed on Amazon. Once it arrived, I placed it in position and within a few days she found it. She "experienced" this product only once -- I was on the deck watching her. As soon as it went off, her ears layed back and she fled across the yard and up on the deck. Wahoo! She hasn't been near those gates since. Thank you, Amazon, and thank you Contech!!!!
It worked while it worked August 4, 2008 It worked great when I first installed it in my atrium. The cats were curious about it but severely annoyed, and the area that gets soaked in a week was untouched. Then urine spots started appearing, and I discovered the unit had broken...after one week. This is a device with no moving parts and runs on 9V yet it breaks after a week. A better option, IMO, would be to build one homegrown-style with better quality parts if that's in your skill level, but the concept works like a charm (and this is coming from someone who has tried - to no avail - cayenne pepper and both organic and petrol-based "barrier" sprays.
