Love these bags July 4, 2008 I was tired of the tons of plastic grocery bags taking over our house, and didn't like the logo'd bags available at the grocery stores. These are great! Fun colours, carry 3-4 plastic bags worth of food, sturdy. The stores love that they have the rack hooks at the top. They did smell a bit when we first got them, but we left them setting outside for a day and they are fine now. I've had many comments on them, particularly because of their bright colours and "nontraditional" look. We've learned that one full bag fits exactly into the cooler we keep to carry groceries home, so one bag is always dedicated to the cold foods. We can also usually carry all the groceries into the house in one trip since there are only 3-4 bags every week.
Great June 25, 2008 These are great bags. They are easy to carry, hold a ton, and nice colors too.
overall a good purchase June 18, 2008 I have been using these bags for a few weeks now and I am really glad that I bought them. Although they looked small when I first opened the box, they hold a lot, are strong, lightweight and very easy to carry. One advantage of having the different colors is that baggers can easily designate a bag for frozen items or non-food items, so I've found that they have been saving me time when I get home to unpack groceries. In response to other comments, they do have a slight chemical odor, but it's not strong enough to bother me. Also, while they may be made of a somewhat environmentally-unfriendly material, they are durable and I am definitely reducing the total amount of waste I produce by using these bags.
Fabulous bags! June 8, 2008 I just received these today in time for my weekly run to Target. We have two kids, so grocery trips are no small matter for me. These bags held a TON! Yes, they were heavier than your average plastic grocery bag, but still easy to carry because they are so sturdy, have an insert that goes into the bottom, and have great handles. I fit a week's worth of groceries into 3 of these bags. I live in Dallas, and it's already 95 degrees here, so lugging grocery bags in from the trunk in the heat is a chore I dread. But, today I carried my 3 bags into the house in one trip and was done. I bought these to save plastic bags and help the environment, but I have made my life easier in the process. What a bonus!!! You will LOVE these bags! Just an example, one bag held: 2 cartons of orange juice, 2 bottles of wine, a large box of cheerios, a box of croutons and some salad dressing.
Nice idea, but these bags stink! May 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
They literally stink!
These bags come in cute colors, and I do like to use them for groceries and other things, but I've had them for two weeks and the bad smell still hasn't dissipated. The smell first hit me when I opened the package (smells like gasoline, or something fume-y that gives me a headache).
Originally, I wanted to leave them in my car to have them with me at all times, but after the first night, the fumes had filled the interior of my car and I had to roll down the windows to air it out. I didn't want my almost-one year old daughter to smell this when she rode in the car with me, so each night I air out the bags and put them back into my car. Not exactly convenient. I haven't washed these bags yet, so I'm not sure if the smell will go away after washing, but how many of us are in the habit of washing these bags before use? Also, this material wrinkles quite easily, so I can imagine if I hand-washed these, I shouldn't wring them out.
I was hoping to love these bags, but the terrible smell is overwhelming. I mean, even mattresses and furniture air out in a couple of days. How long will it take these bags?
One note about the strap length- Just a one or two inches longer and I'd be able to use one hand to lift the bag onto my shoulder. As it currently is, the strap is just a tiny bit too short to do so one-handed; I have to use my other hand to hoist the bag onto the opposite shoulder. Just a nitpicky thing- it's the test I do with handbags and such, to make sure I can do things one-handed. It's an important thing to me since the other arm is usually holding a baby.
